Olds 307 Engine, Yeah or Nay?

I've had very good luck with the Chevy 305 and especially 350 in my two Caprice's. I've got an opportunity to get another caprice, but with an Olds 307. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this engine since I"m not familiar with it. And whether it is as good as a 305/350. Thanks.

Had an 83 Olds Delta 88 With over 230,000 miles when I sold it (still running great). It had the 307 Rocket Engine especially made for Olds. Thise are not the same engines as the 307s made for for Chevys and Pontiacs. Greatest thing since birth control pills.

ok here we go......I happen to have one in my buick. It is a great engine and my wagon just wnet over 270k miles. Starts up every time and runs great. The only issue i have is that either the tranny or the way its geared it isnt very powerful. I think it is geared low b/c it tows great but it just takes awhile getting up to 70 on the freeway. Its a great engine.

As far as the 305-cid and 350-cid, both got fuel injection in the Caprice in 1989 while the 307-cid retained the carb until it was discontinued. You didn't post the model years of your 350, 305, or 307.

Well I hate to be the naysayer, but I had nothing but problems with my 307 in a 1990 Caprice wagon. It eventually caught fire from a bad intake manifold, and I dumped it.

307 well I had a problem keeping the valve train from flying apart. OHH my bad not made for high RPM. As for the yes I do seem to remember going through carb's until I noticed that when warm i put a carpenters Square on the flange and found that due to carboned up egr ports the intake was warping. BUT as with most V8's if you treat them right they will treat u right. Never would of thought to clean out EGR ports though?

as a daily driver, sure
but if youre gonna run it hard alot then stick with a 350 or something else

also it seems slow cuz the axle ratio in these cars was horrible, 2.56, 2.73, etc

crappy,

good luck

Thanks for the feedback. As it turns out, I bought the car, a 1990 Caprice Wagon with the 307. Only 120,000 miles. Hopefully my car doesn't catch fire and burn! Its got a dieseling problem I need to address, and it hesitates/stalls sometimes pulling away so I've got lots of work to do getting it tuned up.

Seems pretty wimpy at low speed, takes forever to accelerate, but at highway speed, with the O/D its not too bad for power.

I just wish Olds and Chev could have collaborated to have more interchangeable parts, everything has to be different it seems!
