I have a 2001 vw jetta wolfsburg 1.8T w/ 86K hwy mi & whenever i bring my car in for service at a local mechanic i have them check everything. Only things i have done other than oil & tires, is rear brakes & o2 sensor. When should i get the timing belt changed, are there any other things i should have done by now or i should expect to be replaced...? How long should the clutch last? Trying to decide to start pouring money into it or trade it for a new vw.... I'm not mechanically inclined, so any help would be appreciated... Thanks!

vw says timing belt at 105k. If it doesnt break by then your lucky. I say replace the t-bely/tensoner/roller/w-pump ect at 80k.
clutches depend on driving habbits. I have seen factory clutches with almost 200k on tdis. i have also seen clutches blow up at 1200 miles.
would reccomend a new car if you dont want to spend 3k on repairs.
tbelt job usually 700-800.
clutch 1200
cam adjuster/seals/oil pump 1000
