Hey everyone, for the past 4 days i've got a bad chest cold, i usually get like 2 per fall/winter. It's always the same thing though, couple days it'll be sneezing, coughing etc...then after that comes the congestion. Last night it was so hard for me to breathe, i read about what happens and it's basically the bronchial tubes getting all clogged up. LITERALLY i was watching tv and it felt like i just did a 2 minute sprint run.
At first i thought maybe it's Asthma...but it's not, it's due to the congestion of the cold. Plus the only time i get the heavy breathing is with a chest cold, other then that i am allergic to cats......and i have one, so that adds to it.
Is there ANY type of over the counter med's i can get that helps heavy breathing..? I'm taking advil and robitussin dm which seemed to do squat. I cannot stress how scary it is when i get that heavy breathing sh*t which last like 10-15 hours. One time i thought i was having a heart attack....but that's not it.
PS, maybe any home remedy's..? I somtimes boil water and sniff in the steam...which works for like 20 minutes.

Just go see a doctor. AF isn't a solution to every problem.

Go get some of those Ben Gay pain patches. I have bad sinus problems year-round and I had one on my chest for a strained pectoral muscle and I have never breathed better. But don't expect anyone to get close to you because they smell really strong.

No problem. And the great part is you can leave them on for upto 8 hours.

what works great is mucinex(sp?) it's kinda of expensive but well worth it. It used to be a prescription only pill called gufenison(sp?). But basically it is like concentrated tussin in a pill form. I can't have liquid cough syrup(shit makes me puke) and whenever i got sick the doctor would write me a prescription for it, but now it is OTC. It is both a cough suppresant and an expectorant(brings up all that shit in your lungs). Take two of them with a BIG glass of water(i mean at least 16oz.) and keep yourself hydrated. I swear this stuff is like the best medicine ever, does wonders. Peace-

Eucalyptus Oil. My friend had a similar problem, and it solved everything.

seriously dude, im thinking pneumonia.
i had the same problem once, couldnt sleep, thought id die in my sleep. went to the doc the next day, he listened to my chest, it was pneumonia. only think thatll get rid of it is antibiotics, and *possibly* diruetics.
as for steaming, WORST thing you can do for pneumonia is steam it. its fluid in your lungs, steaming is going to make it worse (after initally feeling better)
im glad it went away, it usually does eventually. but honestly, next time it happens, a trip to the doc is in order. anytime youre having trouble breathing (not including minor throat irritations) is cause for concern.
