I've searched but I haven't found a thread on this. How many miles do you get out of a tank of gas? Include engine size, 4x4/4x2, year, and tranny type. Thanks!!

99 rodeo, 3.2l, 5 speed, 4x4 averaging around 17 mpg mainly driven to work in stop and go traffic. Guess that should be around 360 miles per tank. I usually fill up when it reads 1/2 tank which is around 200 miles.

Hopefully I never have to know how many miles I get out of tank of gas. Although I would assume somewhere around 370-390 miles (~17-18 mpg and a 21.9 gallon tank), I never let it get below 1/4 tank before filling up. :evillol:

'97 V6 4X2 auto. 18.6 mpg to Miami, around Coconut Grove and back yesterday. All the while wondering if it would overheat. It didn't!

As an aside, the area where I used to live out west of Miami now looks like ghetto. It's really degenerated in the 13 years since I left.

97 3.2l 4x4, 130k miles.

18-19mpg mixed city/highway

Good things for gas mileage
Light right foot +1-2mpg
Manual locking hubs +1-2mpg
Full synthetic gear oil in diff, xfercase and tranny +1-2mpg
K&N filter +0-1mpg

Bad things for gas mileage
32" mud tires
3" lift

I am lucky to get 16 mpg this time of year, in the summer I get 17.5 mpg at best.

My mileage has been on the low side since I bought this vehicle. I keep the tires filled. Within the last year; cleaned EGR and throttle body, new spark plugs, PCV, air and fuel filter and fresh fluids all around. I have come to live with the lower end of the spectrum gas mileage. As long as it stays reliable, I am happy.

17/20mpg
Low fuel light starts coming on around 300mi. Typically fill up at 330-350, gauge burried on "E", at which point I've never been able to get more than 16-17gal in the 20gal tank  .

Marc, what kind of driving do you do & are you heavy on the pedal? I know my 2002 did pretty horrible when my wife (lead-foot) was using it most of the time! It would get around 16mpg. Now that I drive it primarily & gas is so freaking expensive, I go light on it (boring  ) and have gotten as good as 21mpg tank.

Rodeo02, I wouldn't say I am a lead foot, but i don't drive like an old lady either. I do enjoy punching it now and then. I may have to experiment with my driving style. I do find it hard to believe that is the reason for my poor gas mileage. I will concede that it may play a role in it though.

Also, I am mostly highway driving, with very little stop and go driving.

I know whacha mean. They beg to be driven hard. I get heavy footed here and there, used to be much more often when gas was closer to $2/gal. We'll avg 16/17mpg on a tank with mostly short, heavy footed trips. 20/21mpg's are nearly all hyway.

80-90% of my milage are highway miles. Average speed 60-65mph
The mpg is 20-24 depending on the time of the year. I normally start looking for a gas station after I've passed the 400 mile mark on the od. My gas gauge works, but I like to use the od instead.

is it possible I might have a smaller gas tank? I usually let my tank go all the way down to empty and it usually only takes 17 gallons to fill it up.
I once let it get to the point where the fuel light came on, and that time it only took me 18 gallons to fill it up.

I have a 94 LS 3.2 v6 4x4 auto tranny...and by comparison im getting horrible mpg...like i said above, I fill up with about 16-17 gallons and dont ever get past 250 miles on a full tank...I never keep my tires under-inflated, and just recently got a tune up. any suggestions?

The light is to tell you to fill up, not to tell you that you just ran out of gas so even when the low fuel light comes on you will still have 2 or 3 gallons remaining in the tank.

but still, im getting horrible gas milage, compared to you all...even if i let it go those extra 2 gallons, id only be getting about 14 mpg... what other suggestions would you guys give to improve my MPG?

On a 1994 I'd change out the single oxygen sensor. Tires also make a big difference. Make sure they are aired up somewhere between what the door jamb specs say, and what the tire sidewall stamp says. Running non-stock sized tires can also mess with MPG's. If she runs well, your sparkplugs and wires are fine.

Read my above post

I'm also going to clean my EGR, have heard that helps too.
O2 sensors are a good suggestion also.

thanks for the info guys...im going to try changing the 02 sensor and cleaning the EGR...I hope this helps with my mpg.

You should remember that in colder season, you use more fuel. Its the air to gas ration and because the air is denser it uses more gas in the mix. My 2 cents!

Actually, any MPG decrease in the cold would be because your engine is running better, and you tend to push it harder (cold, dense air gives a little more HP). The air/fuel ratios in modern engines are closely metered, and never vary by much. However, in many states winter gas contains impurities designed to decrease pollution, but this also decreases MPG by 1-2mpg.

I don't know if I'd call the oxegenates added to the "winter" blended fuel "impurities" per se. Oxygenates are fuel additives (alcohols and ethers) that contain oxygen which can boost gasoline's octane quality, enhance combustion, and reduce exhaust emissions. These blends aren't only used in the winter either. The Clean Air Act specifies some regions that exceed air quality standards have to use reformulated gasolines (RFGs) all year. Additionally, as a result of Hurricane Katrina, the switch to "winter" gasoline was made early this year to help counter the fuel shortage "she" caused. :2cents:

Just remember its that time of year, where gas milage suffers because of the additives put into the gas, but also remember "bad" gas could be the cause as well. I would not worry about it until spring and summer, if it does not improve, then perhaps there might be something wrong, but don't go by gas milage in the winter fall season, Its not a true indication that something is wrong. Also you could change your air filter, it makes a difference too!

my usual mpg is around 16-17. I usually fill up at around 300 miles due due a nn existent gas guage in my 99. I have been light on the gas pedal since the end of the summer to save some cash and my mpg went up to 18mpg sometimes 19 is i was lucky. Besides anything is better then the 12 my 89 broncoII was getting last year.

97 4x2 auto.

getting between 16 to 26 mpg. city/hwy

It has dropped more lately and I think that It has to do with the air filter. I think that I remember reading a post about certain air filters zapping gas mileage because they don't allow enough air to get in hence making the engine work harder. I put a puralator in and my in town mileage just dropped but my highway miles stayed the same :2cents:
