Water Leak

A lady we know has to put water in her 89 Plymoth Voayer, 3 Liter V-6, when she needs to go somewhere. As she puts water in the radiator you can see it leaking on the ground, from around the harmonic balancer. I could not see exactly where it was coming from, as the motor mount bracket/shield is in the way. How hard is it to remove the components to get a better look at the water pump?? Thanks for any reponse. Rusty

Sounds to me like the water pump seal has gone bad. So the good news is, you just need a new water pump. The bad news is where the water pump is located. On the 3.0 liter V6, the water pump is located inside the timing case, and is driven directly by the timing belt. It is now time to replace both the water pump (out of necessity) and the timing belt (since you are in there anyway). I did not attempt this on my old 1989 Caravan, as I was inexperienced with this style engine and I did not have the time to do it myself, at the time. Good luck with this repair.
