i have the same thing...

use 4 short small diamter sheet metal screws that are preferrabley self tapping if not use a starter hole so you dont crack the plastic. with the four screws in the corners ( slightly in so it doesnt split out) you can wrap wire around the screws creating a handle and work it back out. as for the sife.. let her watch and see how smart you are and gently show her how the slots line up .. it will be a good lesson on "How things Work" and the principle will likely serve you well all your adult repairing fixing life :)
