the STi will be priced about $32k and will have very few options if any. the good news is that you can find a used wrx with around 18k miles on it for about $20k. then i would go to www.vishnuperformance.com
for $1k you can have a WRX that is faster than an STi and is around $10k less exspensive. just so you know, that makes a $200 difference per monthly payment if you finance for 5-years.

why are you so interested in the STi?
there has been no exact release date as of yet, but it should be out for model year 2004.
i've said this before, but i'll say it again, you can get a better deal by tuning a regular wrx. see my above posts.

Why interested in the STI. It's all about the red stitching. Red stitching makes it all worth it, adds 10 hp you know.

One advantage to the STi, is that all of the components on it (tranny, block, head, valves etc.) Will be beefed up and made to handle a lot more torque and HP than the normal WRX Impreza's. Plus they are really nice cars!

alright all you people who think the STi is nothing big are sorely mistaken. First off...a project WRX i was watching could not even touch an EVO VII, while mitsu just released their EVO VIII. What does this mean for your '02 WRX? Eating dust for a long time. STi is going to be able to smoke the EVO VIII, and probably be competition enough for the EVO 9, if it ever is designed and released, considering Mitsu's production record. So to everyone out there that thinks the STi is just a flash in the pan, :flipa: , and for everyone else who is going to hold out for the STi, one beautiful peace of machine, good for you, and i will see you on the track.

dude I will trade in my heavily mod EJ20 for an STi.
STi comes with too many goodies that a EJ20 can't touch it at all.
beefier engine internals and ty85 tranny will be much worth it already for STi. ( not to mention 2.5 liter with VF3x turbo )
admit EJ20 guys, STi will show us only tail lights. I love my EJ20, but it has got to go.

Sorry, but there is a little too much uneducated stuff here. First off, the STi IS going to be a remarkable car. Secondly, It doesn't require much more than an ECU and the BPUs to get to the EVO VIII's level of acceleration performance for a regular WRX (which is the trend setter here out for a full 2 years before a USDM EVO or Sti was a sparkle in the manufacturers' eyes, i might add). Also the EVO VII which beat SCC's project WRX was a full european spec'd EVO with AYC which was somehow left out of the USDM version thanks to emissions equipment needing the space. So I wouldn't doubt that the EVO VII is actually faster AND handles better than the USDM EVO VIII anyways. And will the STi WRX line continue to trounce the Lancer EVO line? Only time will tell, but a true test of how the active differentials on both will be an interesting read. And as you can see, I have nothing against scoobies, just against mis-information.

edit: oh yeah, and don't think 2.5L is going to be the end all of Subaru's offerings. They will still need to produce a 2.0L 4-cylinder to satisfy FIA's homologation requirement to compete in WRC. So as long Subaru wishes to compete, 2.0L it is. But I suppose as long as the STi Spec C meets those requirements in Japan, then I guess Subaru can dabble with their 2.5L AVCS and hopefully soon-to-be 3.0L H6 TT.
