95 Jetta GL

Hi,
I just bought a 95 Jetta GL today. I have a couple of questions about it.

1. How do I lock the doors while i'm inside the vehicle. There isn't any switch like in my 98.

2. My rear defrost button doesn't work. I push on it and it just sticks. I've tried pushing it many times, but the little orand light doesn't light up.

3. My dash doesn't light up at all. I can't see how fast I'm going at night. The only things that light up are the clock and odometer. Also, the heater and air condtioning knobs don't light up.

You may be lucky and only have a dirty fuse. VW's are prone to having oxidation on the fuses, Remove the fuses and clean off the white oxidation with very fine sandpaper. Check the fuses when you have them out. If your car sat around for a bit, this is a real likelyhood.

same thing happend to my 96 jetta.. the little LED lights for the speedometer and gas gauge were out. and also my heater and ac knobs didnt light up. if u pull out the middle knob (the one that lets u change from hot to cold) there is one LED light that lights up all three knobs. i have kno idea how that one light does those three knobs but it worked for me. it is kind of tricky to take out that bulb. i had to go to a vw dealer and when i asked for the bulb i had to get this little vacume hose that fits over the bulb. thats how you take those bulbs out. and to put it in is the same way.

I've fixed the lights on the dash and the heater control.. The only thing left is the rear defrost. I can't seem to get it to work. I've replaced fuse 9 I believe. Is there something else that I'm supposed to do?

Also, what is up with this?? My car starts without pushing the clutch!! YES.. and its standard.. Any ideas?
