Anyone using iridium spark plugs? I'm trying to decide betwen the NGK platimun (stock) and the NGK iridium.
The iridium is lighter, stronger and more heat ressistent, yeah but no info as to its consistency.
I'm running an N/A block so I dont care about high PSI application, my problem is loosing spark consistency at high rpms.
any recomendations?

Well talk to IPO and see what he would recommend, but I think on an NA, either would work. The iridiums will last longer, but cost more, so you have to decide if hte price justifies the fewer times you must pull your plenum :)

working on the car is fun for me, I just want whatever works best. and I think the price difference is like 10-12 bucks more for iridium.

When I changed my plugs not too long ago, I used the stock plugs. I got lucky and purchased them from this guy who was on AF for $55. The dealership here wanted $17.50 a piece whereas Kragen wanted $33.50 for one!!! But yeah, my car's completely stock at this point so the stock plugs worked good (except the 2 times that I had check engine lights come on after the change but it went away and didn't come back).

You changed your own plugs Slade? thats awsome, I've actualy been scared of removing the plenum cause Im scared of messing up the throttle body and /or the slack on the accelerator cable.
after I changed my slave cylinder I sort of banged the TPS with the ratchet, the car wouldnt idle after that it took me a week and 300 bucks at the mitsu dealer to get her running right again, you can see why I am so nervous of touching the wrong spots on this car. removing the plenum means a whole lot of touching around.
anyway slade did you use a torque wrench and the specs from the 316 site? I figured I follow that guide and see if dont mess anything up.
the NGK platinums seem to be preaty good bang for the buck, but my goal is to hit 140mph without any hessitation or spark hickup, I wonder if the iridiums would be better built for that or just as effective. no sense in paying more if its practically the same!

LOL Yeah, I changed my own plugs. Hehe I know, it's hella surprising because I'm totally not mechanically inclined but I can follow directions...especially step by step directions: http://www.team3s.com/FAQplugs2.htm
Only thing that is missing from that link is that there is one more screw that connects to the plenum on the back. It's kind of close to the bolts on step 9. There's a gasket between the plenum and this "one thing" so make sure you don't lose it (it's silver and I almost chucked it because I didn't see it fall out). Also, under your plenum is this one pointy piece that is attached to a wire that screws into the plenum that the 3s link didn't have as well (I'm assuming it's because Gross had a '95 and we have '94). That piece is a pain to screw back on because of it's awkward angle.
As far as torque specs go, I didn't follow the ones listed on 316 because I honestly don't know how to use a torque wrench and was too lazy to figure it out....okay okay, I still don't know how. :( Hehe Oh, and the Accelerator Cable left marks because it's been screwed on for so long so I just screwed everything back to where it's marks were.
One final thing....step 11 when you're removing the two nuts from the side, be VERY careful because they fall out easily. I actually dropped the one on the left and spent the majority of that day looking for it but couldn't find it. So frustrating....then I had this bright idea of dropping the same nut down the same area to see if I could trace the fall but damn, two of 'em went in and I couldn't find both. LMAO Yeah, I know I know....stupid! LOL :p But yeah, you're Musashi bro...you the man!!! You shouldn't have any problems with this!!! BOOYAH!!! HAHA

I have put in iridium plugs and to tell you the truth... Unless you have been having problems with the platinums misfiring or hesitation... I have not been able to tell the difference.
So I would have to stay that iridium plugs are what my wife would call "auto-jewelery".
If you are having problems with "spark consistancy" at high rpms, changing your spark pulg wires to some "high performance" ones is more likely to make a difference then changing the plug type. (At high RPMS the spiral core ones have pretty high resistance). I would suggest buying some MSD wires over iridium plugs.

 thanks man, I've just had the bad luck of owning crappy cars all my life, thats why I'm so good with tools. the 3000GT is the first reliable car Ive ever had.
I was actually researching this a bit and found out that unless I'm gonna be boosting insane levels and running 500+ hp on the car then there really is no need for the Iridium, the platinums will work just fine.
I guess those extra 10 bucks will go to gas then.
BOOYAAH.

When I remove my plenum, I just use duct tape to mark exactly where the accelerator brackets line up on the cable.
Also, get one of those magnet extension thingies. Forget what they're called, but they are like $2 at autozone up by the counter. the=lifesavers when you drop a bolt down into the abyss. You don't have turbos, but it's still prudent to stuff clean rags into any open intake piping and the lower plenum when the upper plenum is removed, so no bolts find their way into unwanted places...
