Brake pads...help?

So my friend called me at 10:00 this morning and asked me to go over to his house to help him change the brake pads on his 2000 Impreza RS. I get out of bed, get in the car, and drive over there. But when I got there, I remembered something. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CHANGE BRAKE PADS. But that didn't really matter to us. We think that we can figure it out. So we take of the front right tire and get to work. About 10 seconds into it we figure out that we need an extension for our socket wrench. So we dig through his garage for about 15 minutes trying to find one, and we got lucky. So we continue our fun-filled morning and find out that the nut just wont budge to take off the calipers(which is what we assumed would be needed). We try drenching it in WD40 to no luck. So currently we are searching the web, trying to find how-to's. Help?

get the sand out of your vagina's and beat on the wrench with a hammer, or get air tools, or a breaker bar.

Most likely you cant get it off because you are afraid of breaking it. Lose that fear and you will be fine.

Also you will need a c-clamp to compress the pistons back into the caliper.

Hmm we used a wrench and bashed it with a rubber hammer, and that still didnt loosen it at all. Any other suggestions?

you're turning it counter-clockwise right? (my uncle needed help with this... he was tightening it instead!) LEFTEY LOOSEY!

anyways, if you dont have a 24" breaker bar, find a lead pipe or something and slide it over your ratchet you're using now. that will give you enough leaverage to knock the earth off axis.

if that doesnt work.... find a friend with an impact driver (local stores sell them for around $15-20, they do a damn good job too.

and if that doesnt work.... do what my buddy did to get my crankshaft pulley bolt off; get an impact drill, rig a 120psi air compressor to push 150+ PSI (I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURIES! THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED, BUT IT WORKED FOR ME) by disabling the saftey pit and hit the mother with the drill until it comes loose...

if it doesnt come loose with all that.... IT IS NOT A NUT/BOLT IT WILL NEVER TURN

use a regular hammer and swing through the wrench. Rubber hammers take away the impact that will loosen the bolt.

Thanks a lot guys. We feel really stupid now. Not only were we trying to loosen it the wrong way, we were loosening the wrong nut. Doh!
