Trying to put new rotors on my Mother's 1993 - what tool is used to unscrew the sliders - something special or is it just a 'star' bit? What size? I don't have anthing that fits so I'm going to have to buy one.

Thanks.

You will need a T40 Torx socket to get the slide pins loose. Once you remove the two pins, slide them out of the caliper and clean them up well. Apply lithium grease to them when reinstalling. With the two pins out, swing the bottom of the caliper assembly away from the mount to unhook the outer brake pad spring and pull the caliper away from the mount. Hang the caliper assembly by something other than the brake hose (ie: use a coat hanger or mechanic's wire or something to support the caliper).

If you are planning to replace the brake pads, or need to compress the caliper to get the pads to fit over the new rotors, be aware that the piston is plastic and you should not pry directly against it. Use an old brake pad or flat, rigid piece of metal to distribute the force, otherwise you might crack the piston.

The caliper slide pins should be torqued to 18-25 lb-ft when reinstalling.
