My Transmission is shifting hard from 1st to 2nd, but the rest are nice and smooth. A buddy of mine said I can tighten bolts on the side of the tranny to get rid of that. He says he knows it works on Dodges. Is this true. If so can you tell me where those bolts are and how much do I tighten them or adjust them. Thanks

It's a F-250 with a 460

There is no bolts on the side and it is not a dodge.
In 45 years of repair work I never heard of that one untill now.
What year and mileage and what kind of trans is it?
Any service history on trans or engine?

Your buddy may be talking about the band adjustment screw, on some transmissions. The c6s/c4s had them, and some of the dodges and gms. The c6 was available till 96 i think. You could have one of several different transmissions. Start by checking fluid level(too much overfull can cause foaming, air bubbles, and shifting problems) , linkage adjustment, and change the fluid and filter. Like MT-2500 said, more info would help someone help you. Each transmission, has its own symptoms, cause, cure.
