Bought it on an online salvage auction. Has "underbody damage". dont know how bad the damage is since theres no pitcures of it. its guaranteed to run even thought it says do not start across the steering wheel. i think maybe theres a hole in the oil pan or something and theres no oil in the motor so they dont want anyone starting it up. best part is, i payed $3700 to buy it and get it shipped to my shop where i'll be fixing it and touching up the body.

Nice car at a great price, did you get some info on the model? I've heard the front lower ball joints are under designed and need replacement every 40K or so and you have to buy the whole lower arm to get the joint at about $400 each. But I'm not 100% about that.

Here's more info: Audi A4 (http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/reliability.aspx?year=1999&make=Audi&model=A4) GL

Good deal. So just what was wrong with it??? I'd imagine quite a bit since you got it so cheap.

Thanks, I do like it. personally i think a4's are designed beautifully. Ive been looking for something newer and nicer because my life and demands are changing. I wanted something a little luxurious, sporty, european (no offense lol), and fun. the a4 seems to fit that criteria well.

JohnB16: the suspension problems your talking about are notorious on 96-97 models. however the 99 has its "normal" problems too. Timing belts break (more of a result of neglect rather than manufacturing) so im going to replace mine before i even start driving it. Also, the engine oil sometimes "gels". This problem is covered by audi for 8 years though and hopefully i wont have any problems with it in the first place. Thats about it for '99 a4 problems.

91 civic 1.5: I plan on getting rid of the hatch. Im moving to Arizona from NY in may so i'm going to take just the one car. first $1000 offer for my hatch takes it pretty much. I would love to get another 4th gen someday down the road, but who knows when.

Quick EG: I dont know whats wrong with it. all it says is that it has underbody damage. could be something as small as missing/damaged oil pan to something as big as a cracked bell housing or busted drive shaft or something.

fierangero: Ive always disliked VW's too. whooda think id go and get an a4.

No offense but that car looks trashed. Does it come with a salvage title? If it does that blows since you cant get full coverage insurance and has no resale value. Not a bad deal if it runs.

one of the sales reps for my company has one and his engine has been replaced twice by Audi, He's glad it was under warranty.

looks like the drivers door doesnt close all the way, and the front bumpers falling off a bit as well, either way, its a steal

now, first thing u gotta do is put an Rs4 grille on it, and some 19 inch s4 rims, drop it and it'll look hot

It's not too bad. I hope it starts and runs. 1.8T timing belts should be changed around what the mileage is at. My wife has the same engine in her 99 Passat. We've just had our 3rd timing belt put on with 166k miles along with new plugs and a major oil leak fixed. But we got a great deal from a local VW mechanic. The car runs like it's brand new. You know, I'm not a big VW fan either but to anybody who thinks that they're "shit" are just plain talking out of their ass. It's all in how you take care of what you got. Although, these days people don't take care of anything. It just doesn't make much sense especially paying upwards 300-400/month to drive a car. Anyway, I hope you can get that thing to run for you. I've been looking at the 1999-2001 A4 V-6 5-Speed Quattros...

egh looks ok, and expensive to keep up, but alittle compounding, rims, lowering, new grill and bumper and she visually set. GL
