well i'm hoping that someone out there has an answer to my question. I have 3 D blocks right now a D16Z6 complete with crank and shit, a D16Y5 and a D16Y7. Now i'm buildinga D16Z6 to handle some boost. block guard, forged pistons, rods, etc. The D16Y7 block that i have is the best looking block that i have, now my question is: Will my D16Z6 crank fit in it ok? now i'm thinkin it will cause the bore is the same, i just wanted to know if anyone does before i pull the bottom of the Z6 and mock it up. any info would be appreciated cause i am just trying to decide which one to weld the block stiffener into.
thanks in advance

when i say "best looking block" i mean that the cylinders look the best and i kind of think that the Z6 block has been planed before. I'm pretty sure that the othe two blocks that i have havn't been machined before and they look like they've been freshly honed.

You still need to take them and get them honed. No since in building a motor, skimping on a couple of $, and the rings not seal right. I have read numerous things about block guard horror stories. I guess thats a decision you have to make though.

well i'm not too worried about spending some extra money to get it honed... but what concerns me is i'm not sure of the history of the Z6 block... eg. if it's been decked before. since i'm planning on using different pistons, and rods, i don't really want to introduce any more variables then i have to. Also, who knows the best place to get ARP Bolts and studs?

Why does it matter if the block has been decked? or do you mean bored out?

To be decked means the block has been shaved down. The question is how much was it shaved. If too much was taken off new pistons may meet up with the valves as they open; Or the compression could be way high.
Thats why it'd matter.

Yeah, but unless the block was horribly warped or rebuilt like five times then it shouldn't have. Just take it to a machine shop and have them measure it. They can tell you if it has been decked or not. Decked just takes off a little, now milling is where you need to worry.
