Another screwed up computer.

Alright I have a compaq crappy ass laptop that the battery is shot in and the power wire comes loose all the time, so it will just randomly turn off. Today when i went to start it came up with a screen saying "computer did not complete startup last time, please use selected options below." Those Are "normal startup, safe mode, etc..." Now when i select any of these all it does is go into a loop of attempted startups and this screen! I tried using the supplied "recovery disk" and resetting the system to factory specs. It goes through the whole download then when it re-boots it goes back to that same screen telling me about the previous failed startup. I also tried upgrading to XP but it tells me there is some missing file(this system is currently running on ME). Also used a boot disk, and all it does it run through the processes of the boot disk, then put me at the A: drive. I'm stumped. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Peace-

The recovery disk probably didn't reinstall Windows, it just reinstalled some system files. Try formatting the system partition and reinstalling Windows from scratch. Instructions should be included with your recovery disk.

Warning: Formatting the partition will wipe out everything.
