Cowl Removal

I am trying to get the cowl just behind the hood and at the end of the windshield to come off. I have tried loosening the 3 screws on the actual cowl, but they are not allowing it to come free. I think there may be nuts holding them on from beneath it. The car is a 99 Grand Prix GT and I'm not quite sure how to get this off, but I already began to loosen it and now I fear it is too loose so I would like to figure out how to take it off completely and put it back on tight and flush.

Screws? Are you referring to the 3 push/pull retainers?
On the center of the retainer is a plug/insert that will remove. You get a hold of it with pliers and pull up. The main part of the retainer may still be imbedded but you should be able to remove it with your fingers. If not just take a screwdriver under the edge and gently push/tilt up.

yeah. I was trying to be very gentle during this whole process and didnt really try assertively pulling up on them because I assumed they unscrewed since they have a phillips pattern on the head of them. As long as you are sure they dont need to be unscrewed, i'll attempt to pull them out with a pair of pliers. Also, how would I remove the winshield wipers. Sorry if my questions seem very stupid, but i've only owned a car for about a year and a half and don't know a lot at the moment.

At the base of the wiper arm where it attaches to the wiper control mechanism is a plastic cap. Grab a hold of it and pull. They are a snap fit. Underneath you'll see a nut. Remove the nut and you should be able to remove the wiper. Good luck!
