This is a new one me. Everything I've read indicates that DEXCOOL is the latest and greatest, and more importantly, it is totally incompatible with the green stuff. You can't switch because there's just no way to totally flush the green stuff from every nook and cranny in the block. Stick with what came in it.

I use dexcool with no problems, with proper maintenance. Thats the key.

When GM says change it after XXX,000 miles, your best bet is to listen. After dex-cool get used past recommend change interval, it has been known to cause waterpumps to fail, radiators/heater cores to stop up, and all kinds of nasty stuff. Regardless to what you have heard, you can use green antifreeze in a dex-cool system, but it must be changed every 30,000 miles, according to GM.

You can replace the dex cool with green coolant. The dex cool will actually gum up your engine. I work for quaker state and alot of times see cars come in where there is excess build up on the radiator cap meaning this is evident in the whole radiator. They make a machine that pulls out all of the old coolant and puts new back in with no problem. Alot of people say stick with dex cool however i say wait until warranty is over then change it just because if anything goes wrong with the engine they will nto cover if flushed with a different coolant. Also dex cool does not last 150,000 miles except in rare cases it will. Most dex cool systems need flushing at 100,000 miles but the green coolant is cheaper and will work just as good and can find it everywhere. If your not sure if you want to do this just flush it out twice best bet is to go to an oil change shop that does oil changes and have them do it this way any concerns you have, or any problems that company is legally responsible for any damages done to your vehicle after servicing. No worries with switching from dex to green, i do this every day for a living and flush alot of dex cool systems over to green with the coolant machine.

If dex cool came in it use it. It is made for your engine and your engine is made for it.
Do not believe all of the dex cool is bad stuff crap.
Old timmers said the alternators were a bad deal when they changed over from generators to.
Would you go back to a generator?
Look how long and how many cars GM has been using it in.
Just flush it out/change it ever so often.
And it is only a couple dollars higher than the old geen stuff.
Beside that green stuff will curl up your dogs toe nails if he takes a drink of it and I have heard of a few wives giving there husbands a swig of it to.

I was talking to the head mechanic at my local Chevy dealer and he told me to flush the dex-cool out of my system on my wifes '02 and put the green stuff in, all the problems that gm vechiles have with intakes leaking stems from dex-cool. If the coolant gets low on a vechile running dex-cool it will cause the antifreeze to turn curosive.

I was talking to the head mechanic at my local Chevy dealer and he told me to flush the dex-cool out of my system on my wifes '02 and put the green stuff in, all the problems that gm vechiles have with intakes leaking stems from dex-cool. If the coolant gets low on a vechile running dex-cool it will cause the antifreeze to turn curosive.


The dex doesn't have crap to do with leaking gaskets. The gaskets fail due to the material they are made from and the aluminum/iron composition of the engines. Dex isn't a forever anti-freeze like GM claims 150K but I can run 3-4 years no problem and not have to change it every other year like that green crap.

You state the obvious that if you fail to maintain your vehicle bad things happen internally. Well stop the presses, there's a newsflash. I think your "mechanic" is a moron for saying that. First he may be a parts changer...his job. But when it comes to simple maintenance he wants to lull you into the obvious, work for him to do. Typical folks don't maintain their vehicles like they should. With that said neglected coolant systems are big bucks to fix. It doesn't take a genus to see this.

Whatever you decide to use is a personal choice but I have over 300K over 3 vehicles with DEX. No coolant related issues here because I maintain them properly.

Green with sludge up as well with neglect. You do what you want as you said it is a personal choice. But you make claims and fail to back them up and thats fine too.

Man, I know!! I went into a small town mom and pop quick stop, and spent nearly $20 for a gallon of cheap, green stuff to top off my system(gasket leak)! Luckily, I just finished changed my heads and intake, so i had to put new gaskets in.. but i still cheaped out n bought green stuff...so.

Doesnt matter how much the green coolant is. You can get it refilled for free usually at any oil change shop it comes in bulk. however dex cool comes in drums so they might charge you. I guess thats up to you though. In the long run the green will be better and cheaper. The maintnence on dex cool calls for 150,000 miles but by that timei ts a tad to late to do the switch over. However if you car does have 100,000 plus i would stick with dex cool just because your engine is used to it but anything below that i would feel free to run the green.

Well I think that you are a moron. The techs that I have talked to about this subject have more certs for ase and gm that You have brain cells. The one mechanice is one of the lead techs in the state (ranked by gm).

You know that gm is not going to talk down their wonderful dex-cool. As far as I am concerned you can use what you want and I will use what I want. Either way they both work, and as been discussed in this feed, as long as you do proper service.

Seconded, a lot of anecdotal mis info out there on Dexcool. have had 2 cars and a truck with anywhere from 65k to 180k, no problems, with normal maintenace.

Green or dexcool if no service you are going to have problems.

Years ago when they first came out with alternators on cars to replace them old famous generators them old timmers all said them alternators were a bunch of crap and would not last.
I think they had kersone or green or yellow for coolant back then.
And green was not the best choice way back then.

I don't give a crap who you talked to. There are thousands of GM cars and trucks on the road with Dex. Instead of flaming why don't you put YOUR proof out there? It is very simple but since you don'y have any proof other than the spew from your "experts" just give it a rest.

If you don't like what I have to say why don't you go some where else. You have your opinion, I have mine. And the more research I have done, more people are following mine that yours. Why don't you go to any search engine and type in Dexcool problems and see what comes up. There are literally thousands of hits. Also GM is not going to knock what they have sunk millions of dollars in to. But I will take the word of my sources as gold, they have more car knowledge in there little finger that you have in your entire body.

Dig them up out of the grave and ask them how good that stuff is.

I asked for proof. You made the statement it is for you to prove your point. It isn't up to me to search I believe what I have seen and my vehicles substantiate it for me. You have the burden of proof and once again you FAIL to back up your claim...
