hello all,
lately i have been the EGR insufficient flow code. I've cleaned the egr valve, tubes and all. reset code with scanner. Fine for a few weeks, than code comes back. Is the egr valve going?? or another issue here?
99 3.8 LTZ sedan 130,000 miles

Thanks Paul

A bi-diectional scanner can commnad the egr on to confirm operation, this would normally stall the engine, starting point here. Has any work been done around the engine recently?

Check your PCV valve housing. There is a spring and two o-rings, one on top and one on bottom. IF the spring is broken or missing, or one of the o-rings are missing or torn, the resulting vacuum leak will cause an Insufficient EGR code to trip. The MAP sensor sits on top of the PCV housing, and the PCM uses MAP sensor signal to monitor EGR efficiency. GM makes a repair kit, part #89017274 that consists of the PCV valve, spring, both o-rings and the top piece that the MAP snaps into. It costs $20 from a dealer.

Rich, that's why I asked if any work was done, you type faster than I do, figured I'd let him tell me the manifold or pcv was replaced

Got the kit, and installed it today. The old o rings seemed worn. The car seems to run a bit better. Reset the light, so we shall see what happens.
If the pvc vale assembly was leaking air, would it cause the car to act weird or affect performance??

yes it would, because the MAP sensor is located just above it and will get a funky reading if the PCV is mucked up or there is a vacuum leak around it. hey Max, I've answered that question so many times, I now have the response saved so I can just copy and paste.

Hehe....I've got the exact same car with the exact same mileage (more or less) and exact same engine and exact same problem. I swapped the valve with a junkyard one. Make sure to use a new gasket. And clean all electrical connections and sensors in the throttle body with electrical cleaner. My problem went away.
