what's the worst a cop can do (sr20det)

Hi, I was searching different forums for a clear answer, but what's the worst that can happen to your car (I'm in California btw) if a cop asks you to open the hood and sees the sr20det in there? Will your car get impounded/crushed right away or will you just get a ticket? Also, is there a way you can avoid showing your engine in such cases? Does anyone actually know of anyone who's gotten caught?
Thanks
Thanks

from my guess i would say impound and fines... not sure how it would be since it is a non-federal legal motor it could be some crazy fines, but it's not against the law to own one just to drive it on the street. i think...

Get hood locks so they have to have a search warrant :dunno:
Here in Texas nobody cares, I'm open downpipe and I spent about half an hour today buzzing around police headquarters looking for a parking spot.

I have a friend in california that has an sr, cop pulled him over and just gave him a ticket for speeding. didn't even bother to look and see whats under the hood. I guess it also depends on the cop

What cop would know the difference between an SR and a KA anyways? Its just another import punk speeding around to them. They prolly wouldn't see anything out of hte ordinary under the hood that would make them want to check numbers or something anyways.

i think they have a book with pics of sr20's and all taht shit, but they dont really know where to look. i was readin on 240sxforums.com wehre they had a book and they would pull hondas over and ask if they have a sr20, straight FF style. idk maybe they were full of shit but thats what i thought

I heard cops here were trained to identify sr20's by looking for signs like intercooler etc

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be out in enforcement of something if they didn't at least have some idea of what they were looking for. I'd have to side with the guys suggesting the hood locks. You're probably more likely to get a ticket, but that's still better than any potential fine your motor would get you.

Isn't the hood already technically locked?

sorry officer the key is at my house
You don't even really have to say that, once its locked they are SOL... Until they get a warrant, which if they care enough to do then your pretty screwed because they'll prolly be pretty hiffy by then.
But yeah, the people on Zilvia say they have a nice picture book to show them what they are looking for.

i think it depends on the area...i doubt cops where i am would do that, but i have heard San Diego is especially cracking down on this stuff.

I'm confused, I thought it was just a drive clean thing. When did they say you couldn't have one period?

well, being that it's a non-federal motor it makes it illegal...

In the States it's not legal, there's alot of ways around it depending on the state that you live in. In Canada, it's legal everywhere, but some provinces need it to pass emissions, but that's the only rule, if I'm not mistaken. I know that in Quebec, everything is legal! lol

It's maybe a stupid question but whats wront with that engine? At me poland from some 3 weeks people can put any engine they want under the hood but the car has to pass technical inspection. Thats the only rule. Engine numbers are no longer in ?car ID? You can even have a stolen engine and they almost can't do a shit to you.

it doesnt matter here. As long as you can pass emissions they dont give a crap. Or you can be like me and register in a non-emission town and bypass it all!!!! Only a safety inspec for me, then im good for two years.....time to change my brake pads squeeeeeeek lol. Iv driven it like once in 2 months....i miss it.
