92 Camry V6XLE tranny Prob?

Hi All,

I have a 92 V6XLE, 162,000 acting very strange after short drive. The vehicle will run for a short time and then, I think when it warms up, it starts acting like the tranny is slipping, doesn't seem to matter which gear I select or I am in at the time of slip, usually I am in D. It gets so bad that the car won't move in any gear. If you let the car sit for a short while, turn off engine, then restart, it will shift and go again for an indeterminate period of time.

The tranny has been flushed with new fluid (2X) because the kid drove this car into 3 feet of water. The original flush showed some signs of carmel froth look with dark coloring, but second flush looked much better. Garage didn't suggest any "shavings" but didn't pull the pan.

I have no flashing O/D light, which suggests there is no fault code, but I haven't checked for one yet. Sure seems to sound like a No1 or 2 shift solenoid problem. Any ideas?

Thanx.

I doubt they flushed it. Pull the pan and flush it yourself. Also check the throttle valve cable (kick-down cable) on the TB to make sure it's in the middle of it's adjustment range. (See the link in the FAQ).
If water got in there, the fluid got broken down, or there was a low fluid level - you most likely burned the clutches & possibly the brakes inside the transmission because they wern't activating hard enough.

If it's slipping gor god's sake stop driving it. It takes about 5-15 miles on a slipping transmission to go from a clutch to go from wearing at a highly accellerated rate - but if you fix the problem will still be OK - to a clutch that's completely worn out.

Pulled the pan and for $15 I replaced the tranny screen/filter and pan gasket. The screen/filter was so clogged with junk it is no wonder it was having trouble. Car has been trouble free for four days now without a hickup. Moral: Do your own work if you can, it will pay off many times over. No one cares for your car like you do! :lol2:
