Well i have just ran into one of those infamous mac photoshop benchmarks.

As i've seen often on this forum many people keep up the myth about the powerpc's overwhelming superiority in graphic design.

here is the benchmark:

Using Photoshop CS or CS2 (or PS 7)
==================================================

1.) Download the test image from http://www.quicklance.com/test.jpg

2.) Save it to the computer and then open it up in Photoshop

3.) From there please apply a 'radial blur' with the settings at:

Amount = 100
Blur Method = Spin
Quality = Best

Using a stop watch / ps timer see how long it takes to apply this filter

I've got a 40 sec on CS2 (+/- 1 sec for human error on the stopwatch)

This is what the mac guys got:

and here are some pc guys:

My specs are below notice how my ~1000 USD box matches mac systems costing close to 3 times the price:

proof:
here is the result of a guy on the mac forum(2nd page):

Photoshop CS2
G5 Dual 2.3
3.5GB Ram
Radeon 9600
OS 10.4.1

45 seconds flat.

his system cost over 3000 USD as on the apple site (after you up the mem to his specs):

here are my specs:

DFI LANParty UT NF4 Ultra-D
3800+ X2 Manchester core cooled by Zalman CPNS7000Cu
OCZ GOLD (2X512) 2-2-2-5-1T 2.8V @200MHz
EVGA 6600GT 128 MB cooled by Zalman VF700
Seagate 80 GB Sata 150 NCQ
Maxtor 250GB IDE
Thermaltake Armor V8000 case
PC Power & Cooling SILENCER 470 ATX

PS. the purpose of this thread is to see benchmarks on other fellow AF's computers and to dispell the macs are far better at graphics myth. So please no flaming or attacking the other forums listed.

its pretty expensive around 300 usd i belive for the full version, it will be cheaper if you go for the educational version or upgrade. Or even cheaper if you get the "ultra special edition" :uhoh:

You can always get the free open source alternative Gaim. Its not quite as good but its pretty dencent.
