92 LeSabre instrument cluster compatibility, general questions

Hi! I'm a newbie here and am looking into buying a 92 LeSabre Limited.

I used to own an 88 Olds Cutlass Ciera and loved the 3.8. The last couple of years have seen me driving a 95 Passat and lately an 88 Ford Festiva. It's time for some American luxury now.

Are there any specific weak spots I should look out for when checking out a LeSabre? I'm looking at the models between the boxy ones from the 80's and the current one. I am aware of the 3800 series II coolant "leak" issue.

The one I was looking at comes with the speedo/tach instrument cluster, but personally, I prefer the long horizontal cluster. Are all clusters from 92 through 95 (or beyond) compatible and interchangeable? E.g. will the basic cluster be a straight plug in from the "upgraded" one?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Andreas

It should be!
Just plug in.

FYI- It is not.

You would have to re-wire the connector on the back of the cluster to get it to work.

Search the forum for "cluster swap" for more info.

FYI:

I replace my 93 Limited cluster, with a cluster from a 95 Park Avenue.
Plug And Play. About a 1yr ago!

I must say that my original cluster had all the guages on it: rpm, batt, oil, gas, spedo, temp.

So the sensors were already in my car also! So my swap was plug and play!
