engine interchange

I have a 1997 geo hatch 3 banger. Is there any difference in the engines of the older geos or all the 3 bangers interchangeable,
what years will fit im mine, thanks in advance

96 up have a crank angle sensor on the front of engine. you can use a older engine if you replace the oil pump and front cover with a newer oil pump that has the sensor. and of course use the intake manifold from the newer engine
