have a 95 4dr 4X4 cpi with 199,000 miles on it. running pretty horrible lately. after reading threads on changing the CPI, i took to it. changed out the cpi and nut kit. all was well. took it for a test drive, still putting. ran some seafoam through the engine, and chnaged the plugs afterwards. still putting down the road. i have done a FULL tune-up and was wondering where i should look next.. thanks

Try pulling your EGR valve and check for carbons chunks. Clean it out with some brakelean and make sure the plunger is moving freely. Reinstall it with a new gasket. See if that helps.

Did you check your vacuum hoses? Starting with the one off the back of the intake and going out from there.

what brand plugs did you use ?

is it putting at idle or all the time? did you clean the IAC?

any codes?

hmmmm .... after a full tune up? hhmmmm ...

you didn't mess with the timing did you? don't 95s need to be set with a timing-light?

hmm ... you might try H20 decarbonizing, or another dose of seafoam ...

Sounds like you've covered most things. Have you checked to see if the fuel pressure is low? Considered the possibility of a clogged cat? If your CPI was leaking, it could have killed your cat in no time at all.

hmm i didnt check my cat, i need a new exhaust. my muffler is rusting through. ill have them check my cat out tomorrow. ill bring it by the shop and have them check it out. i didnt know a clogged cat could cause putting.

How about the cap and rotor?

Check the coil to cap wire as well, it tends to corrode in the coil end.

i changed out the cap and rotor when i did my tune up... everything that should have been changed was changed

Well I would take it to the driving range, get it to stop putting and start driving. Good grip and form are key, oh and the right set of clubs helps.

Good to hear that you got it running. If this putting comes back. You mite want to take a look at your fuel pressure while its happening. Also think about changing your fuel filter. That could also cause your motor to act up every now and then.

Might be bad gas.

i always get the same gas though, every single time... as for my fuel filter, changed that out not even a year ago. it on putts while driving, never while sitting at idle. smooth idle. i just got home from a 3 hours drive. not on putt the whole way home. gas milage went WAY UP too. before i changed th plugs and CPI i was getting roughly 14 city and 17 highway, no im at 22 highway. dont know about city mileage yet. but im still happy as can be..

Its actually recomended to get different gas every now and then, different companies use different additives that can clean/clog your fuel injectors and the like.

Man, I know that for sure.

The winter gas here at Petro-Canada makes my truck run like ass. Has alcohol in it for "deicing".

Esso works great and I think I am going to stick to that from now on.

ive still get gas at the same place everytime, no more putting at all. gas went down to 1.92 today. happy news. not like paying .94 like Rlith but good enough
