trasmisson is leaking

well i bought my car everything was good the guy told me is was leaking a lil bit the car hasen't been drivin in months right. so i take it home and cruise it tranny is just fine gears go in perfect. the next day i took it out for a drive and the shifts are hard. not that hard but i can feel the differance so what can i do. should i take it to a shop so the can check the oil level in the tranny. because the last thing i want to do is mess it up. any help is good thanks.

definitely get it checked out... don't go driving... that's the last thing you wanna do to it... from the way you're saying it, I'm taking that it's a 3000GT ATX... from your sn... a VR4... seeing as how you're new... I'd check the stickies... it's not that hard to refill the transmission... but if you've got a leak... it may turn into something bigger if that's all you do... Try for Aamco... they usually give you a free diagnostic... or if they do any work... they'll take the $50 off for the diag. but especially with a VR4... those trannies aren't cheap... don't drive...

From your name, I'm gonna assume that you have a turbo. If you're just gonna check your tranny oil level, you could do it yourself so you don't need to take it to a shop because they might charge you to do that:

However, if you're gonna get it diagnosed then yeah, a shop would probably be able to find out where it's leaking from. Others here could probably give you a start on where to look as well. Good luck!

yeah my dad took it to a shop and they put some oil in there its not lieaking that bad its okay. i didn't have a chance to talk to my dad because of school but he's taking care of it they said is was nothing big. thanks for the help.

i had a tranny leak on me twice. the seals were not put in right or were getting old. eventually the leak will get bad. My freaking xfer case busted out all over the parking lot. get it fixed! it won't be cheap, but you gotta do it or you will have to buy a new tranny!

like Gateway said... these leaks start little... but they will not stay that way... I'd keep a check on it every other day, until you get it fixed... or you may wanna start saving for a new tranny... right now, you're prolly just looking at seals... soon it may be more... never let that tranny go dry... it'll overheat the internals... and then things get expensive...

Yeah as everyone said, keep an eye on it, and get it fixed sooner than later.

If it gets too dry, you will f-up your tranny. If you go too long without fixing it, it will get worse...just like every leak does.

Also it might be beneficial to jack the car up, and figure out what exactly is leaking, the transfer case, or the transaxle. Slade posted a helpful link, check it out.
