Does the overflow tank need to be somewhat level with the radiator or can it be lower?? Thanks for any replies.

I could be wrong on theory here, but isn't it a sealed circuit expansion tank setup? In which case it uses the prssure relief setup on the radiator cap to release water into the tank and then the vacume provided by the radiator and fluid cooling draws it back into the radiator? Height wouldn't mean too much if that's the case.
Feel free to shoot my theory down though :p
The one in my car is about 3 cms lower than the top of the radiator.

Setanta you are correct that it is a sealed system, the only problem with mine is the fat cracks in the platic bottle. I either have to replace the bottle or fix the cracks. While I was at it, I was going to get the bottle out of the engine bay to let it get cooler as well as make the engine bay look cleaner.

When I was detailing my engine about a week ago, I looked over and *POOF* my overflow bottle was GONE! (?!?!). Now I gotta go get a new one.
