1997 plymouth neon engine noise

hey,
i have a 2.0liter sohc, replaced the engine once already since i had it, oops, but sometimes like around 2200 rpms it has a tick and right at idle it has a knock, sometimes it is a little loud and other time it is not, it only makes the knock at idle, as soon as you give it alittle gas it goes away, as for the tick its the opposite, i had talked to dodge about it and they said this is all normal, i have been around cars for most of my life but this one had me stumped.

The "lifter" tick is quite common on the neons. First you should check to see if your oil level is good. Some people switch to a synthetic oil and it helps the tick go away.
