I too had a rant about Revell kits the other week. TBH, they are bad, but I'm told no worse then some other kits, and sometimes better then Tamiya but AMT and MPC are even worse then Revell, or so I'm told.
Sometimes it depends on the kit. I'm working on a Revell Cobra, and it's not a bad kit TBH. Parts a little messy, chrome was crap, but on the whole OK.

Revell kits are more challenging to make to look good, but they have an interesting variety and some good stuff, plus they're cheap! Their newer kits seem to be better though, like the SRT-10. Plus your case sounds like a packaging error, which can happen even with Tamiya.

i dunno, just every revell kit ive had has been warped/mising parts/ horrible fitment/ bubbles in chrome parts....etc. but i see what you mean for the packaging error, do you think that they would send me one? I'd hate to waste my time for nothing.

I have never had as big a problem with revell as you guys have. But then again, I've only built one tamiya kit and it was a bike. Sure they have their little flaws. some engineering errors here and there, but it happens. If you want to build a lot of the modern and especially the older american muscle cars, you don't have a choice. some claim that amt and mpc are worse. but, if you want a higher detail and not really any more parts than a revell amt is the way to go. The require a little more clean up and finess but great finished products.

you can just go to their site and order your needed parts. They charge $3 shipping and you can order up to 10 pieces.

Like drnitrus said, you can goto their website and order replacement parts.
The MPC kit Im building right now is actually fantasic, yeah there was flash and molding lines EVERYWHERE, but its detail is fantastic. The model itself was made in 1977 so I guess I could understand the molding lines and flash.

Yall are expecting the quality of a $50 model for $10! It doesn't work that way! It's like me expecting the interior fit, quality and performance of a Ferrari out of my Honda Civic! Revell rocks. I've never had a serious issue with a Revell kit that wasn't my own fault (lack of prep usually)

I am not sure where you guys are getting your kits , I have never had these issues with Revell. IF you want something thats absolutely perfect and takes no skill though I suggest you switch to collecting die casts!!!!!!!!!

So true, its a real shame that most kids lack the creative juices these days. Too many conveniences these days, everyone expects things to be done for them.

Well that’s the playstation generation for you. They will go to great lengths to ensure they have time to shot, crash and jump around in video games, but won’t spend a few hours learning how to paint and glue something together.
It’s just the lazy generation of kids we are now seeing. TV, Video Games, Mobile phones it’s all created to keep kids out of mum’s way..!! Sadly even though many will perhaps disagree with what I’ve just said, it’s true..
Anyhow, back to Revell I think they offer great subjects, and if the time is invested they build into a nice model. And anyhow, I’m working on a model from Revell right now and the decals are easily the best I’ve worked with. Very forgiving, and register will with setting solutions.
Also Revell are the only company to offer affordable F1 kits at the moment, even though they are only 1/24 at £14 for a up to date F1 kit you can’t really complain too much. I’ve got the Revell Ferrari 2003 GA with all sorts of aftermarket goodies and it should make a decent model if I can complete it..!!

Hmm, thinking back at some of your models, I think it's more of a serious mental problem you have there, sir!
Oh and a little afterthought, what would keep revell from releasing a really superbly molded, detailed, carbonfibre-decalled, super-de-luxe (w.PE) model, which could be branded as something like "revell de luxe" , costing about the same price in the US as an imported tamiya kit.
Just think of it, the higher price would be more of a profitable margin then 5 or so lesser priced kits, while the quality would be very high and the extra price would make room for higher licencing fees.
Just another of those random thoughts.

IT'S YOU!!! heh..you just seem to have bad luck. Get someone else to buy the kits for you. I hate that tho. U know..it really sucks on a 1:1 when you have the wrong glass adn have to tell the customer they have to wait for the correct glass to get there. Especially in the rain:rolleyes: Revell loves you. They are just misguided sometimes.

I've been modeling since I was 12 and now I'm 17. I've only started building japanese kits for roughly 2 years, before that it was revell all the way. AMT every so often but slowly decreased due to bad fitments. But it's odd, I have the Ecto 1A made in 1989 and it was an amazing fit! No problems what so ever. But when I started building the 1/16 Cobra, I had alot of issues. But in the end it all works out! Take your time, and you'll be satisfied!

I prefer Revell & AMT kits. They make the cars that I like to build. And if you take your time any of their kits can look great.
I only build a Tamiya kit if I want to do an F1 car or something. tamiya is way too expensive.

Tamiya model kits in the UK are a little pricey as well. I can pick up a Revell 2003 GA and Revell C5R for the price of a Tamiya Subaru Rally Japan 2005. Tamiya are best brought from HLJ or search around on ebay.
Tamiya paints in the UK are also pricey, so it's not just the model kits that cost, their supplies do as well... Their new line of P/E tools although good are very pricey.. I mean I paid £11 for a pair of P/E cutters. They are just precission tin snips.. Little pricey but are very good.

Its not really the fitment issues that bother me because those can be easily fixed, but what i'm saying is when you spend a long time into making a model look nice and then they give me the wrong windshield which is a major part, but then i have to pay for their mistake, thats a pain in the ass, because then this 15 dollar model turns into a 30 dollar model.

It would make sense to buy your models from places that will accept returns. At least one online shop (Hobby Heaven) will take care of problems like that if you bought it from them. You should always take a good look at any model you buy when it's brand new and make sure it's got the right parts. I've had Tamiya kits w/missing parts too. It happens to every company. At least Revell offers spares...they used to be free, but too many people took advantage of that to fill up their parts boxes. AMT offers zero customer service; they tell you to take the kit back to where you bought it. I know I go through every model when I get it to make sure that the parts are all correct and included.

Yep.. Gotta agree. Check the model before building, ensure all the parts are there and are correct.. I've had issues with Tamiya kits, Honda RA272 had a ruined engine part. Mold was wrong.
Tamiya offer replacements FOC, but you sometimes get questions asked, and they are not always keen to send FOC. And I can understand Revell wanting to cut out the greedy sods trying to fill up their parts box..

yea i understand that, but somethings you wont know are wrong until you put the model together, like you cant just look at a windsheild and say, oh thats not for this car. you wouldnt know until you go to put it together, and i dont know about you, but i dont take the windsheild out of the plastic until its time to go on because it will get dirty.

While I fully understand your comments ATMDC about the revell kits... I too could add personally If your able to deal with the little extras like, the windshield issue or the Diablo which has a body thats totally out of shape and doesnt fit the chassis or the 206 which has headlights for a ford focus well its only gonna be the better more experienced modeller who can make something of it.
Also when you change to a Tamiya-Hasegawa-Fujimi kit after building a few revells, well its good experience i think.
Some Revell kits I have made seem to be higher quality than others... maybe the dude who injects the plastic properly only works certain days of the week.

i still dont see what an incorect windshield has to do with skills, its not like this is my first model or i have only bought revell kits instead of tamiya, hasegawa, aoshima, fujimi, or whoever else, i know they all have their problems, but when something is unfixable and only replaceable, its kind of a pain in the ass when your not the kind of person that really has the money to be dishing out on things like that.
