Aright guys, my dam 93 escort (power steering obviously) churns and makes noise when turning the wheel specially at low speed. What do i need to grease/replace/repair now? Any ideas are appreciated.

I'm sure you have checked to make sure the reservoir is full. I was getting a low speed knocking sound in my steering (93). Found out last weekend that both ball joints were bad (at 262,000 miles). They were pretty easy to replace. There are no parts to grease on the Escort. On my car the power steering pump has always been louder than the engine.

I could have sworn there were grease fittings where the outter tie rod meets the ball joint on my 94 escort....

My 91 escort wagon is just starting to make a whining sound in the power steering pump. It still drives good but it is just annoying. I replaced the inner and outer ball joints about 10,000 miles ago. If you start the car and turn the wheel back and forth rapidly, you will hear a thumping sound from under the front end. That is the play between the ball joint and the shoulder it is in. The car will wander slightly too. cheap and fairly easy to fix as long as you have that really deep socket used to remove then with. Down time was only 1 hr total but a realignment is needed before you wear out your tires. Dont rely on just counting the turns as you unscrew it!!!!!!

Jersey Devil, your talking about "tie rod ends". I just replaced the ball joints on my car last weekend. You can check these by jacking the tire up off the ground. Grab tire at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and push/pull to see if there is play. Mine was worn out. Usually heard a knocking sound at low speeds on bumps when turning. Like going in/out of a driveway.

Take as much fluid out of the resevoir as you can and replace it periodically with new fluid. I do this every time I change the oil with a suction puller. I started this 2 years ago. The fluid was really dirty (black). Now it is almost clear and with 140,000 miles the power steering still operates like new.
