no awd in reverse

97 ford v8 awd, no rear wheel drive in reverse up hill. does good forward uphill but in reverse the rear wheels will not pull at all. any ideas?

Check your fluid level in park on a level surface and look at the color of the fluid. Should be red cherry color and it shouldn't smell burnt.
Service the transmission filter and see if that helps. Use Mercon V fluid and ensure the level is in the cross-hatch area when hot!

i changed the fluid about 15 thousand miles ago, the level is ok. thanks.
