amp & sub question

was thinking of getting the lightening audio combo set of 450watt 2 channel amp, 10"sub in truck box with wireing kit and putting it in my 92, was wondering if it would be atleast a half way decent set-up, not going for loudness, just want something to last a while, and give me some base to my already growing (cheap but good sounding)system in there. put it a jvc kdg-100 i think head unit,i still have the stock(or guessing they are stock havnt changed them) speakers in dash, new 6x9s roadmasters in back, and 2 boxes of 6.5" & tweeter in on the floor under the front seats in back. it may have been cheap speakers and got alot of neg. thoughts from me getting roadmasters, but they sound real good, and 100% better then what was in there, and now im wanting some base to go with everything else. i wasnt trying to be cheap, its just what i found and it sounded good(quality & price). was hoping to hide the amp by putting it under one of the seats if it would have enough room for air under there, if not would have to go to the trunk area then. i liked the bundle of the amp box & sub since its a truck box and i know it would fit in the trunk, and cant beat the price, even buying another brand of stuff individually couldnt get the same stuff for the price which i think it was around 175 for the bundle. have heard good stuff about lightening since they are made by fosgate i think is what i heard. thanx for any info.

try Online Car Stereo (onlinecarstereo.com) They have some good products at about 1/2 price.

before i have the set up i have now...all i did was got a jl 12w0 with a single box and folded down the seat directly behind the driver and put it behing there and then i put my amp on the ground between the two seats....its not the best looking in the world but if your like me you will enjoy not having to take as many ppl in your car...how much were you thinking about spending

would like to keep it as cheap as possible since im on a budget, thats why i liked that lightening audio set since it had all i would need(amp box sub & wires). was asking about putting it under the seats since i work at a mall, and would like to keep it unseen and avoiding drilling into the trunk area above the gas tank.

they have some sony x-plode, pioneer, & vr(roadmaster) amps at the wally worlds around here, the pioneers & sonys are cheaper there then bestbuy & circuit city, which is the 2 big named places around here with car audio at reasonable price. my brother had told me before to go to a pawn shop to get the stuff, but i would rather have new so i know the stuff would work. i would like to stay around 200 but at most maybe 250, may not be much for a loud system, but all i would like is bass to go with the rest of my system, would like to feel the bass too, dont care if you hear me from 1/4 mile away like some people like

dont buy speakers from wall mart they will crap out on you...just save up a little money and get something from circuit city or best buy...just NO WALLMART

walmart wiring is also known to fail and melt causing burnt carpet and smoke or fire.

when it comes to car audio, you get what you pay for.

Yeah.. if I were you i'd put your amp behind your rear seats, in the hatch area, above your gas tank, BTW do not drill because theres about half an inch of space to your gas tank and a leak is something you dont need, so you can use some velcro or something to keep the amp from moving, then ofcourse put the subs in the trunk and everything. Btw its best to put some rear window tint or like throw some clothes in the back like a couple of shirts over everything, so it seems like a crap car or something, to keep it unsuspicious..

i wasnt going to get the subs from wally, unless i got that lightening audio set, they want to much for the wires at bestbuy & circuit city 100+ for the kits. so i guess buying the power & ground from another place would be cheapest, i dont see why their wires for $100+ would be better then wires say from home-depot or anything, just has a brand printed on them.

if you have an alpha audio in your area go there they sell all the wires by feet so its pretty cheap...you can probably go to any car audio place in your area and they will sell you wires by the foot...its much cheaper then best buy and circuit city

ok i got me a a set from bestbuy, its an insignia set with 2 12" subs. the guy that sold it to me said in a camaro trunk, if i had them both in that it should be very loud if i faced the subs toward the hatch glass.i just have to build a box, anyone have plans for a box for camaro trunk? thats big enough for 1 12, im only going to put the 1 in so i can keep trunk space(jack & fluids takes most of it when i get a box in there) and keep the full backseat, well passenger backseat, no one will fit behind me since i got seat pulled all the way back so i can drivei comfortably. i was originally only going to get 1 10" but couldnt pass up the amp 2 speaker combo for the price, just takes a little more work for me to make it fit. and thats where im needing anyones help again, for a trunk box for 1 12 to fit in one side or across the bottom where its notched off like for a t-box or whatever its called. it shouldnt be hard to draw up the plan, but the trunk latch motor cover is what throws me off and not sure how i should make the box, i will make the box this weekend, when i finish wiring the car(i ran out of power wire due to the way i routed, i went thru a hole the prev. owner drilled thru on the drivers side instead of finding/making my own on passenger side with the battery. any plans would be nice, with drawing/pic whatever would be even better. i was thinking of notching the box the whole way down to make room for the trunk latch area, but then even if i brought it up from there its still short of being a cubic ft and wouldnt be big enough for the sub to fit in. im not thinking to good today. i know the bottom is like 12" widex 10" deep at the bottom and if notched for the latch its around 7.5" x 6" on the notched side, i was semi good in math and even if sup would fit in the top, its still just under the 1cu.ft.
im not going to be picky on the type of box/material so any help im greatful for. could i attach the amp to the hump over the gas tank with a short enough self tapping screw like maybe a 1/2-3/4" screw?
i was also thinking of using 1/2-3/4" mdf since thats what most of the boxes i have seen around are made out of, and what to use to keep it air tight, silicone caulk?
thanx for anymore help, this is the best place for any maro help i have found

or sum kinda design for something like this one http://www.subthump.com/images/camaro/ttop/tattop.jpg i think i could live with that, if it could be removed easily to get to stuff on bottom, or hinging it to lift/swing the subs out of the way to get under, if that could be done. thought that was a good idea if it could work.

i bought my own, was around 400 dollars with a discount though. Its a Pro-box with ports and fits 2 12's and fits right in the back of the camaro/firebird trunk. Subs hit hard as a mother F'er in that box.

thats alot for just a box, thats about what i will end up paying for all the audio i put in mine. but thats good to know that i could have the potential with that type of box to make alot of noise after i make it.
which should i use mdf or a plywood, and what thickness?
all i wanted was some bass to go with everything else. i got this set-up http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7218888&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03085&id=1114638698347 360watt max bridgable w/ 2x 12"subs, it says in its description that its 360w rms at 4 ohms bridged, so to do that would i be using just 1 speaker, or both in series to get that? would i get better sound running each speaker off each channel or bridging them into one? its my 1st system, so i may be wanting alot, without spending alot, but thats me, and so far it has worked really well. if only the car would have been worth what i paid for her would have been nice, but live & learn right.
i'm going to play around tomorrow with some cardboard & tape measure to figure me out a box, maybe someone here can help with some ideas. im still undecided on 1 or 2 subs in the back, but im leaning more toward the 2 subs. should i look into getting a capacitor for this system, its not a big system, and i dont plan on asking for alot out of it to take a drain from the battery, but i do alot of early morning drivin to work and dont want flickering headlights.

i built my own box for 2 12's. i have a crossover and a 1000 watt amp.. mids and highs run off there amp. for the amp i built a custom amp rack. the box is at an angle. Like gen said you do get what u pay for. Make sure your amps are rated for your subs ohms and what not. BTw remember all amps are not true wattage the cheap ones peak at a certain ratings.. make sure you get a cap. A nice deck also plays a huge role. if you got any questions you can hit me up at [email protected]

ok i think i have decided on just using 1 of the 12's in the trunk, now the fun part of designing a box big enough for it and keeping the one side open, trying to design one around 1.2-1.5 cu ft in size, and trying to get it to fit on the drivers side of trunk. i will add poly fill to the box, since i have read that it helps with the sound waves somehow, and it simulates more airspace

i custom built my box from the bottom of the hatch up, used 3/4" particle board with formica on both sides, sounds great, loud as hell.. got the wood for free, so i couldnt pass it up.. only draw back is that the damn thing weighs at least 150lbs loaded..

heres a pic of it in the hatch.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/KaotiKKid5/newbox.jpg

looks really great, love the p5's, they are different from the rest out there, so they are special, and i think they sound really well. i would like to do the same, but i have such good luck, i could build similar box, and be out of town in middle of nowhere and get a flat and couldnt get to my spare or jack, looks like your trunk may be a bit bigger then mine. i think i will go with half that to get my 1 sub in, and if i bridge the amp & blow the 1 speaker, i got a spare, & have 4 year replacement on the system. hopefully i can figure it out tomorrow and get the box built and all hooked up. i know i will be staisfied(atleast for a while) with however it turns out.

all you would have to do is lift the box up onto the deck out of the trunk space.... then u could access ur spare and jack easily.

well i been trying to think of something to fit just the 1 in, and had trouble last night, so i thought of using just a peice of 3/4"mdf across the raised area and put both 12s in, and maybe angle the speakers outward to give me the area between them for a little bit of storage. would that work? im new to the sub/amp stuff and im trying to learn

how is the remote turn on wire hooked up, i know to the h.u. i would like the the amp to be on a togle switch so i could turn the sub off if i had a kids with me. i dont want to chance damaging their hearing. im gonna see what my dad thinks of making a custom box for the back, since he has built all kinds of stuff(cabinets, sheds, and worked for mobile home place many years ago), so he knows what he's doing, if he cant think of a way, i will go with a box sitting on the back seat lowered, and will attach to seat with maybe 1/4" or bigger braided wire ran thru the box and around the seat. been theifs in the neigbor hood as of late stealing bikes & what not out of peoples garages, and since im parked on the road i want to make them take longer if they want my stuff out of car.

ok with dads help, we got a box built for the 2 12's with aprox. 2.2 cu. ft. its all screwed together and got silicone drying in all the seams. around the trunk latch we had a little problem with are angling so there are some larger up to 1/4-1/2" gaps, i was going to use the foam sealer in those crack, silicone on a thin panel on the bottom, and run a layer of silicone over the foam on the inside. we didnt put a divider in the box, hope it doesnt affect it to much. can always pull the box at a later time to put one in, or shoot a partition in the middle with that expanding foam. i think my dad was being funny asking if the box could have holes in it like it was, not know they have boxes with ports, but those shaped ports prolly wouldnt help sound any.
i think i have room in the middle of the speakers to mount a cap, if i need one. i am going to try to get box finished up tomorrow, and maybe painted, was going to primer it, then go from there on with sumthing. if i can find a good flame paint pic, thought about trying to release my artistic side and try painting some green flames, something about green flames i love, we all seen red/orange/yellow flames. and if it doesnt turn out good, its paint so can always go over it.
