I smell gasoline

I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT.
Over the last could of days I have been smelling gas from inside my car. Particularly when I’m idling at a red light.
My gas cap is properly tightened and I’m not seeing any gasoline leaking anywhere.
What could this be and where should I take my car to get it checked out?
Regards,

This sounds like a fuel leak in the engine compartment. Let the car warm up and open the hood while idling. Rev the engine several times and look for a leak. If it is around the engine you should see it.

It is also possible that there is a leak somewhere else and it could be a problem with the evaporative emissions system. Take the car to a local mechanic that you trust. If there is no one try the dealer. Don't wait as this could cause a fire.

Thanks for the tip. I did start the engin and look under the hood and noticed a very small spray comming from one of the fuel lines. This one travels all the way to the gas tank so it's going to cost me about $350.00 to replace it. I took it to the dealer. :sly:

Thanks for the tip.

Would JB Weld work in sealing such a leak?

JB weld would work as a temporary fix but the line should be replaced if it is leaking badly. Since the line must flex and is under high pressure the JB Weld probably won't hold very long.
