Completed - Revell '06 Mustang GT

Got this kit on Friday; painted this one and another for an ACME group build, and completed this one today.
Paint is Cobra Colors Tungsten Gray (factory color) w/Revell's "silver" stripes that really look kinda gray but went on okay. I did the black/red leather interior and lowered it, aka butchered the suspension and wheel housings to fit Aoshima Volk Racing TE37's painted in Alclad Stainless Steel.
This is a really good kit. The instructions were written by somebody on crack :eek7: :shakehead :icon16: as they are riddled w/errors and omissions, and you're all tired of hearing about the soft plastic that's sensitive to lacquers. Got both of those issues dealt with (who needs instructions? :evillol: ), and the only assembly problem was the necessity to trim about 1/16" from the inner door panel B pillar areas that come in contact w/the inner roof and keep the chassis from fully seating. Once it seats, the chassis/interior literally snaps into the body for a very sturdy and solid model.
Here are the pics. I see I need to clean the model up a bit and repaint some window trim. Doesn't show in normal light, only under the bright photo lights :icon16:

Beautiful Job Bob!
I love the stance..........that's how all of them (1:1's) should sit!
I've got to grab this kit when I get to my next club meeting! I do wish they would've included the Bullit type mag wheels but oh well...........
Maybe someone will cast them sometime out of scratch.

Thanks Bill; I wish Revell had done those wheels as well. The ones they did and the tires look pretty lame. The lack of any sidewall detail on the tires is a cop-out; just because they won't pay tire co. royalties doesn't preclude them from at least engraving something realistic looking on the sidewalls (even hyroglyphics and a few concentric lines), since smooth sidewalls are totally inaccurate.

Geat build. How about few detail picture of the engine and interior ?
Thanks! Didn't get any detail or in-progress shots and I'm not taking it apart! The hood doesn't open very far. We're putting another one together on Friday night at our hospitality room at our show, I'm sure pics will be taken of that one. It's painted in Lambo Blue Ely, Mach I 2003 has done the chassis and did a killer job on it and the wheels (Porsche GT3 rims that he masked and painted dark gray in the center). BRE350Z is doing a black and TS-44 Bright Blue interior, and another guy is doing the engine. I'll post completed pics of it as well by about this time next week.
The engine and engine compartment detail is good, it lacks hoses/belts and some of the FI garbage. The interior is very nicely detailed, all it really needs is some aftermarket seat belts.

Super work!! It looks like a real car. Nice color choices!
It looks like Revell really nailed it with this kit, as all the proportions look correct.

Very nice build Bob! I have started mine but am just done cleaning the mold lines on the body ! I did not notice the problem with the B-pillars and interior when I mocked everything up, but will recheck. i will paint my kit in Vista blue metallic, without the stripes (and stock wheels, repainted in aluminium metallizer as I am not fond of chrome rims on performance cars)
I was thinking about converting this kit to a convertible (!), do you htink it is feasible?

Thanks. It's definitely feasible. I think you might be able to snag parts from the earlier Cobra or Saleen Speedster; I actually checked this kit w/my Saleen Speedster the other day-the uptop looks very similar but will need to be widened a touch at the top of the windshield. This should be an easy convertible conversion; but who knows Revell may do one of their own so I'm not going to do a conversion quite yet.

Real nice Bob! The red interior & brake calipers really set it off. Excellent work on the finish.
I'm sorry to hear about the crazing problem you encountered with the Moon Mud primer. I think you may have one of the earliest six jars that were bottled before the formula was changed to eliminate any chance of that happening. Although I tested it on spare bodies I had on hand with no trouble, I never tried it on the new plastic used in recent kit releases which is where the problem seems to crop up. Since the formula fix, I've sprayed Moon Mud on a new Viper body with no trouble.
Watch for an e-mail message.

The hood doesn't open very well, the hinges don't pivot the hood up much, so I took it off and shot the engine compartment for people to see what's under there. I didn't do anything but basic paint and decals, the basics are there for anyone who wants to fully wire/plumb the engine...though I have no idea why anyone would want to do that :uhoh:

Thanks! I love how these rims made it look as well (and I know what you mean about 350Z's)...the stock wheel/tire Revell put in this kit leaves a lot to be desired. I'll likely swap out the stock grille at some point, I really don't like the stock GT grille, the foglights look so big and I actually like the V6 grille w/o the lamps better. The Shelby GT500 is much better looking, since it mimicks the concept much better.
Dunno why Frank/blubaja thinks these wheels don't look good on it...but then again, we're getting design commentary from someone who drives a Baja? :screwy: :disappoin :evillol:

Nicely done... the wheels match perfectly. I really want this kit now... What scale is it? If it is from Revell, I would think it is a 1/25 scale right? The engine looks great too even without the plumbing and other detailing. Great job!

No problemo, quit worrying :icon16:
I had the rims painted months ago (hated the bronze color) and in the box, tried 'em on the model and they looked better than anything else. I didn't look at them as Japanese-style rims on an American car. I almost used a set of Pegasus 23's, but they were just a tad "blingy" and I didn't want to use the ubiquitous Torque Thrusts on it.
As for pics w/my GT, I'll try to get to that later...I think you might like it if/when I build my other Mustang...I have Legend Lime paint and the desire to build an SCCA/Speed Challenge/Grand Am/Vintage Trans-Am style road racer in Legend Lime w/ black stripes and appropriate competition markings and numbers. Some other ACME members seem mildly interested in a similar project, and we're already planning a group build of some vintage IROC Porsches for next year where our show themes are "Porsches and Pony Cars". I don't normally build race cars, but every time I've built a vintage racer I have a blast and our group builds are fun and very motivating.

ZoomZoom...WHAT!!!!!!!?? Bronze Volks are the BEST!!! Hehe..And yes, I will like that green one. I was planning on making one of mine green also. Good luck.
That Yankees car...ugh. :disappoin :icon16:
Mine was photographed at the show today by Scale Auto, and I was asked to do a kit review on it. Our group build is almost done...Eric/Mach I 2003 needs to glue the wheels on and it's done.

This car came out awesome.
I didn't think the red interior would look good with a silver exterior when I first saw this car during it's construction. I think they look great together now that the car is completed.

Thanks; I never did mention how I decided on this color combo. I saw it featured by Ford in their PR/press information; it looked great in studio photos and they had one in this color combo-stripes and all-on the auto show circuit. I knew I liked the color combo long before building it. When Leon offered the color, I wasted no time getting it. This was long after buying Legend Lime and planning that one...but that was '05, and the '06's were out before the model hit.

Sorry about the thread necro....
What brakes/calipers did you use on this kit? The stock calipers leave A LOT to be desired (although they are pretty realistic to the 1:1 car).

They're Fujimi Brembos from parts pack wheels.

Thanks. Can these be purchased separately? Do you have a link for them?

No, they come w/some Fujimi parts pack wheels and I have no idea which sets have them or not, and they come in two different sizes. I have no links, these came from my parts box tho I have a few resin ones that were cast by a friend in an open (1-sided) mold. I'm surprised Fujimi doesn't offer them up easier.
