3rd gen swap

I'm now back on the idea of getting an iroc-z28 and then doing a swap so Ive started looking for crate 350's to swap in. I found one on craigs list here: http://seattle.craigslist.org/pts/105101799.html

Does anybody know if it would be a direct drop in or if it would even fit at all. I know the the gen 1 350's don't fit in the 4th gen f-bodies so I was just wondering which motors wont fit in a 3rd gen.

I figure I can get a decent 3rd gen for around $1500, in my area atleast. Then get a 350 crate for around $500. Then use the extra $2000ish I get for sellin my car for perfomance mods.

you can't find a crate engine for that much, but u can find an old beat up 350 for that much... then build it up yourself... that way it would put out more and cost less than crate engines do...

ya ive never seen an crate that cheap so good luck there....and you can put any sbc into a thirdgen...and with engine swaps nothing is ever a direct drop.

Yeah, Im looking at getting a beat up one. Sorry I probably should have said that better. If its economically possible for me I'm gonna try and get a 383 kit from jegs or summit soon after that. Then a little later on get better flowing heads and build up the trans/rear-end/suspension. I guess now I gotta start finding the parts and getting prices.

you can get a 383 with some bad ass heads already...do a google search on 383 crates there are tons of other companies other than jegs and summit that sell them some even cheaper.

I looked at some 383 crates on jegs and their prices were insane...like $4500+ I dont have that much money to spend right now. I was gonna get the old 350 and get the 383 kit for a little less than $2000 hopefully. Then I could better heads and a valvetrain with extra money.

i added it up over and over again and its pretty much the same price to build a 350 to a 383 then it is to buy one complete...if you have a person who can do all the work for a deal then it might be cheaper to make one. but if not then i would go with a crate....are you going to be running carb or efi

Damn, I guess this is more expensive than I was thinking it was. I would deff prefer EFI, and I'm still looking for a late 80's iroc to put this thing in.

Your best bet is to go carbuerated and then eventually save for EFI if you really want it. I think carbs are cool  Here are some good places to get things from. You could also get a longblock and then find your own intake and all that good stuff to save some money.

And a great place to find all things fast is www.racingjunk.com

see thats what im doing i bought a complete 350tpi with ecu and all that good stuff and im just going to make that my 383 and just port and plolish the plenium and runners for now then uprade later to an accell plenium and runners....but ya i think going carb first is a good idea...if you dont already have the efi stuff.
