Has there ever been a diesel S10?

My uncle has a diesel Ford Ranger. 84 model, in pretty good shape, but it sounds like a rattle trap gasoline at first, until you read the word "diesel" on the side. :D

I haven't seen any diesel S10's or any other small pickups...

Yes.

don't know anything about them, except they were a 2.2L, and the people that own them won't give them up. They say that they are a little gutless.

There is 1 person on another forum that I'm with 1

Does your uncle's have the 2.5L Mazda built motor?
The mazda built motors have 2 oil filters. 1 on top the other.

If his does thats a version of my Topaz's motor, and they're incredibly reliable. Although a little gutless. I'm told that some are turbo.

This is what he wrote about the motor on that forum

I assume your looking at nothing older than early 90's? I have a old 84 s-15 with a 2.2 diesel, it's ugly, gutless and noisier than hell but amazing fuel mialage (est 45-50+mpg and thats concervitive).
Overall I've heared conflicting stories from many people about these engines (gas ones anyway). pretty much comes down to how well maintained it is and how much power you want to sacrifice for better gas mialage. unfortunately you can't get it both ways.

I can probably get a contact number if you want to find out more

I'm not looking for a diesel S10, I just wondered if there were any. They're rare, so it's natural one wouldn't want to give them up. Problem is, they'd be even worse about getting stuck than a gasoline, unless they were 4wd.

I'll have to ask what kind of motor my uncles got. :)

Those early S 10s had the Isuzu engine in them. One heck of a motor. Brother had a Chevette diesel, same engine only a 1.8, ran for 300,000 miles on basic by the book maintenance, clutch went out so he gave it away, guy ran it another 70K miles. If only GM made those old S10s today, couldn't beat them, all things considered.

Isuzu makes engines for lots of heavy equiptment and they rarely have any problems. They sure know their stuff.

Your bro is probably kicking himself for giving up that old Chevette

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure Isuzu makes the Duramax.

Reading about the coolant leaking crap from GM these days, maybe they need to have Isuzu start building more of their engines today? I still think it would be a big seller if they had a diesel S-series pickup available today.

I've tried asking AF about setting up a Diesel forum, and I hope that they do.

I don't think that Diesel is the best fuel to run, but I think that it's the best that we can get at the moment.

Did you know that the inventor of the Diesel motor built them to run on Peanut Oil?

YES, outside the U.S. most of the S-10s and many other cars have the MWM 2.8L turbo diesel. I have a home in Costa Rica, AND a 2001 S-10 Blazer with the Brazilians' MWM TD. IT is a beast to say the least. Outside the U.S. this motor is also in the ford F-Series, jeeps, Chevrolets. a couple of asian cars and a bunch of euro cars. including Volkswagen. the USMC uses the MWM in some of the combat vehicles, and the ones I have seen go to auction with the MWM package are bringing $40K AT AUCTION. Google the MWM 4.07 2.8L or the 6.07 I think it is a 4.0L engines.. the great thing is all of the parts on both are interchangeable. the design just added 2 cylinders. all of the internal and external parts are the same. When I restored and repowered mine, i think it only took 5 , or 4 wrenches..
