your regulator is busted. You can fix it by removing the door trim panel and putting it back on the track. If you go to someone and do it, it should cost no more than $100.

I have the same problem in my '86. Did you have any luck? And if so, how did you get the door panel off? I'd just wing it, but I'd probably just make things worse. -Thanks for your help.

Most jeeps are built the same when it comes to door panels. First remove the screws holding the handle and lock in then pull it out and remove the actuating rods if manual or electric connectors if power. Then remove the screws holding the arm rest in place. For the window crank handle some newer styles just pop on and pop off with enough force but older ones usually have a small c clip in the part that attaches to the rod coming through the door which can usually be pried out of place with a small flat head screw driver. Then for the actual panel itself almost every car I've ever worked on has plastic body panel connectors which just slide in and out of holes in the door's metal so start on a corner and work all the way around the edge pulling them out as you reach them. Once you get the panel off it should be easy to see what the problem is with the window which sounds like it's just jumped off the track.
