Neutral Safety Switch?

My 98 Malibu with a V-6 and auto transmission will not start. The battery has good voltage, all accessories seem to work and the fuel pump runs when the ignition is turned on. When the key is turned all the way to start, there is a click and nothing happens.
So far, I have removed and re-connected the battery wires, and checked any fuses that I could think of. A meter says the battery is at 12.5 volts.
Is it possible the Neutral Safety Switch is bad? Is there a way to check it without removing it?
Any input or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a bad starter. If it was the neutral safety switch, it owuldn't even click. Try having someone give the starter a whack with a hammer or other blunt metal object while u r trying to start it. See if the starter starts to kick over.

Thanks for the tip... it was the starter after all. I should have known better than to suspect the most complicated thing first. The starter was actually pretty easy to change. I most definitely appreciate the help.
