I found a junkyard transmission for my 1999 3.4 Grand AM SE. Jasper offers a rebuilt tranny for over $1800.00. The cost on the junkyard transmission is much lower and it has 40,000 miles on it. Anyone with any advice pease feel free to contribute.

Junkyard is acceptable especially if the cost is much less and it only has 40K miles. Make sure to flush the tranny cooler before installing the new transmission and once installed change the fluid and filter in the transmission before start-up.
I would also change the front, axle shaft and rear seals while it is sitting on the floor. This will prevent leaks and will be a lot less labor if one goes out later.
