How do you disable the airbag system ?

I want to replace the (infamous :p !) intermediate steering shaft.
But first, you have to disable the Airbag system. I have two questions:
1. Is it enough just to pull the Airbag System FUSE to disable the Airbag system? (This would make things ALOT easier :) )
2. The Hayne's manual says you also have have to:
a. Disconnect driver's airbag connector on the STEERING COLUMN.
b. Disconnect passenger airbag connecter behind GLOVE BOX.
*IF* it is necessary to disconnect the driver/passenger side airbag connectors, where is the connector on the STEERING COLUMN? (The Haynes manual isn't clear).
Thanks for any help.

When I installed my body lift all I did was pull the fuse then wait a little while to make sure the backup capacitor had fully drained. Thats all that the instructions said to do and I had to extend my steering shaft. It worked out ok for me.

the best way to do it is to unhook the negative battery cable and walk away for 10-15 minutes. I dont think you have to pull the coloum out to do the repair(never done one but took dealer about 45 min. to do mine) Air bag wiring and plugs will be yellow on most vehicles.
