How I ended up making the downpipe:

(say nothing about the welds... i had to fab that using a 225AC stick welder, table saw, and a sawzall which was useless.lol Its 304l stainless.)

For clearance, I ended up smacking that hardline a couple of times with a hammer(carefully) and then putting a spacer behind the left bolt of the master cylinder. I ended up having prolly .25" clearance, maybe a lil more, but I fit some heat shield in there.

I've got a 109mph trap so far on 9-10psi, but I'm ordering an AVC-R this week. Going to the dyno to break 300whp and gonna run a couple times at the track on that. Prolly do like 7psi on the street which will make prolly right around 250whp. After that, saving for internals.

Old turbo is reserved for one of my friends as a payment for him helping me on my car back in the day.

ha we got very similar turbo's before and after, its just that i got a slightly bigger compressor wheel. i know all the other ka guys says that a 50 trim is better then a 60 trim. but i'll take my chances and give a 60 trim a shot. i mean it flows closer to the surge line so it should mean its cramming more boost into the engine to right before the limit of what the engine can take. when i get all my issues sorted out i will try to dyno my car too and i guess we'll compare numbers. i just hope that i dont embarass myself.

Man, that is impressive. I got a lotta respect for people who are doing most of the work themselves.

Oh and good going with giving the old turbo to your buddy. Loyalty is a rare thing these days.

I do all the work myself. My car has NEVER been to a shop. One friend has helped me, physical help only. Nobody has ever been there to lend a thought or two.lol

I actually did all of that in about 7 hours. Had the old manifold off and new one in place in prolly one hour. Most of the time was spent fabbing the downpipe. Mocking it up was a PITA and then those turning welds were pretty tough. A lot of Goddam filling! Esp when you're welding with this POS:

But usually, I get welds like this if I can prep them well before.

i mean it flows closer to the surge line so it should mean its cramming more boost into the engine to right before the limit of what the engine can take

Nope. Just means it pushing less efficiently.:) But you do have the ability to make close to 500whp on that turbo, if not a lil over. I'll be at 430whp for the rest of my life.lol

Oh and good going with giving the old turbo to your buddy. Loyalty is a rare thing these days.

Yea he deserves it. Been watching me do all this shit to my car and he's been under my car for a few hours.lol Its pretty tempting to sell, but friends first.
