Computer resets on startup

i just bought a 99 cougar v6 auto. every time i start the car the computer resets along with the clock and the trip odometer. if anyone can help it great

Are the battery cables loose or corroded? if so a toothbrush (not yours) and some bainking soda mixed with water, about 50-50 on the battery terminals will clean up the corrosion.(sorry for spelling). when you try to start the car ,a high current connection is present at the battery terminals and the starter and if you have a bad conection ,the current could bypass the computer due to the fact that electrical current will find the the least path of resistance and that will most likley be to the starter and not the cars computer, try this if it dosent work e-mail me [email protected]
