yes you can do that no problem. you'll need a steering wheel puller, snap ring pliers, and i think a t-25 torx bit (for the air bag screws). disconnect the battery, take off the air bag, the screws are in the back (4), use the snap ring pliers to take off the air bag coil, pull the wires out so you can slide it off the steering shaft, now if you really wnat an after market steering wheel ake loose the kick panel under the driverside dash, find the yellow connecter and disconnet it and pull it out, or if you don't give a shit about it (like me), cut the wires at the coil and pull it out the bottom. put on your new steering wheel. this will cause the red INFT REST light to come on in the instrument panel. to cure this take out the panel and remove the bulb, or ignore it. its pretty easy to do all of this.

Hi Thanks for that, i did offer up a none airbag wheel from an 89 model, but it didnt want to go all the way on, the outta edge of the colum and wheel were touching so it wouldnt go any further? any idea's, did the boss change at 1992? im just a quater of an inch away from glory didnt want to remove all the airbag bits untill i no iv got the right one,[the yellow bit behind the wheel and on the colum that is]i have just ordered a momo wheel and the boss they have sent looks like it might do the same as its the same depth as the 89 wheel i offered up.

If you want the right hub adapter/Boss for your pontiac firebird,Trans am,Camero, it is MOMO part number 2401 for years 89 to 92, it will fit earlier models, the reason i have had so much trouble getting it to fit is cos MOMO sent me the wrong adapter part nbr 2400, all though MOMO say the 2400 is for all firebirds, its no good for the airbag models, if you have an airbag make sure you get the 2401 adapter.then follow LIGHTGRAYS info below! [thanks LIGHTGRAY,you were spot on]
