Here's my latest car. A Lilac Pearl Mazda Miata.

The color is by Cobra Colors, and is part of a new line of pearls that is about to be released. It is a 3 stage system. The car is first painted in a black basecoat. That's right BLACK. Then the pearl paint goes on after that. I was amazed at how bright and vibrant this car came out. I put 4 or 5 coats of pearl paint over the basecoat. Each coat added vibrance and a better color shift. I am really impressed with the paint.

The kit was by Aoshima. The first one I've built, and it went together well with no drama.

This car was built right out of the box with no modifications.
Here's the pics. The pics of the interior really show the color shift well.

Very very NICE Matt!

The paint is glass smooth.......did you use any clearcoat or did it come out as is?

Superb!

Looks good!
You didn't experience any problems with the paint looking foggy and greyish at some angles of light?
The reason I ask is because that's what happend all times I used a black base and a translucent paint on top.
This one for example.

You built it so well, that your work outdoes the kit itself.

Any imperfection I can find is in the manufacturing of the kit, not your work.

May be hard to tell, but thats a huge compliment to you! :iceslolan

Excellent work! Those cobra colours paints really come up nicely.

My only suggestion would be perhaps to scribe the door grooves a little deeper... for the next one of these you do... hehe Could just be a trick of the light, but they look a bit shallow to me.

Overall outstanding job, will look great on the shelf!

This model is really cool.

I saw this one yesterday in person, the pics don't do it justice-they aren't in focus enough to convey just how deep/perfect the finish is, nor the rich "grape" color. The paint job is probably the shiniest I've ever seen-you could go swimming a mile deep in the clear, Matt is officially a polishing fool :evillol:

Thanks for all the great comments. I'm really happy with the finish of this car and glad you guys like it.

Obsessivemdlr - This car has 3 coats of Cobra colors clear on it. I sanded it lightly and then added 1 light coat of Tamiya clear.

proosen - I didn't have any grey areas, are you seeing the pearl flakes? your body looks similar to mine before clear. A bit lighter shade of purple, but very similar.

Captain Mark - The panel lines seem ok in person.
This sysem of paints definately needs good panel lines though.
3-4 coats of primer, 2 coats of black, 3-4 coats of color, and 3-4 coats of clear when into this finish. 14 coats of paint airbrushed on is a lot.

ZoomZoom - Thanks! I think this finish is one of, if not THE best I've pulled off so far.

Awesome job Matt. I agree, it's your best finish to date. You are a polish master.
