heres a car i found
its a 1998 honda civic LX 4dr automatic trans, said its fully loaded tint(picture doesnt show tint, think she got her cars mixed up), body is in exc condition, int very clean, well maint
it has 120k miles on it, timing belt and water pump was changed at 90k miles...
a few problems that im facing. i called and this girl totaly sounded spacy. like not normal lol... also when my sister called her she hung up on her. and then my sister called agian to ask for the Vin and she hung up, also my brother tried to call and she hung up. now i think it is a cell phone.... so is that a major thing? my sister and brother in law are going to go call and check out the car tomrrow. do you guys think its a good deal? the kbb private party value is 5800 so idk.
also is there anything i should look for when i go check out the car? anything that will help me lower the price, any hints there might be something wrong and it might be a scam? thank you VERY MUCH

doesn't look well maintained. Not a very fun car, slow, sloppy handling. Not worth more than $3000 and only good as a commuter car.

..so basically it's a honda...
good for gas milege and that's about it.
S2k is ok but still a honda at heart- no torque.

Nothing wrong with Honda Civics, but if you're looking for fast, you're barking up the wrong tree... like you're looking at a Palm tree and you should be looking for a Maple. Way off. Civics of that era can be easily modified for more power, but in stock form they are 30-mpg economy cars and nothing less. I might even go as far as to call them incredibly wimpy :) but with potential.
Hondas are great commuter cars in my opinion, but $5800 for a 98 with 120k? Nope. Just walk away. They were only $12k new.

I might offer $3500, $4000 if she could provide full service records to prove it was maintained flawlessly.
That 120k could be no problem if it was taken care of, but a few missed oil changes could put it on its last legs.
You're on the right track as far as improving performance, but the bottom line is that you're starting with 120 or so hp and the low-buck mods might add 10 hp. You said you wanted something fast, and a civic doesn't become fast until you spend much more money... like thousands. Nitrous, turbo, supercharger, or machine work... then you're talking about the 300 hp fast stuff. Until then, no intakes or coffee-can exhausts will make it "fast". Just a word of warning if you're looking for performance. Just because they were in a movie doesn't make them fast in real life. :)

ya, that car with an intake and exhaust is still slower than pretty much every modern minivan

if you want to go fast in a honda you either need VTEEEEECCCCCCC or a turbo...
DOHC vtec at that btw.
Then with the increased power you will have fun with putting the power to the ground and/or torque steer.

Diamond Star Motors..
You're eclipses, talons and lasers before 1995.
It's a deal between Chrysler and Mitsubishi motors.
The deal was ended in 1995 although you can find talons and ecliples(obvously) after 1995, but they're not true dsms, rather the successors to them.
1000 already answered questions faq

The turbo models have about 200HP and 213 ft. pounds of torque.
They're pretty stock.. they run a low 15 for both the AWD model and the FWD.
AWD models= :naughty: they use a simple 50:50 split for the torque though a vicious coupling center and have only a rear LSD and a center.
Until a the front wheels start slipping, the center diff only sends power to the front so it's just like a FWD until you exceed the amount of traction the front wheels have.
Anyway they're great cars to drag race but not so great for circuit racing since they act like a FWD stock so they're understeer under power.

If you're looking for something fast don't buy a Civic...especially an auto and 4door Civic.

Er strong usally refers to torque, atleast in my dictonary.
In that case you'd want an engine that has lots of low end torque, but not alot of HP.
torque is what you feel you feel when you accerate.
For off the line performance torque is king.. area under the HP curve++.
A good example of an engine that has lots of torque but not alot of HP is the stock 5.0 mustang and the older 4.6 sohc mustangs.
Both rated actually around the same.. 215 was the final rating for the 5.0 when they switched to the 4.6 SOHC which was rated at 225HP.
In earlier years the 5.0 was rated at 225
5.0= 300 pound feet of torque, 4.6= 285~ (but at higher rpm..)
As you can see, both v8s produce alot more torque than HP :evillol:

I would do what i did and find an Integra GS-R....i don' t know what your budget is, but that might not fit. Those cars have good potential and are fairly quick stock.
I would get a DSM, but as someone already jokingly pointed out, they kinda break a lot. They can teach you how to fix things, but i'd rather have a reliable car.....

yeah, i dont know. im accuatly starting to look at honda civics that are stick shift. im find them a lot more cheaper with less miles. problem is they sell a lot faster. my question was, if you where 16, how many miles would want you honda to have (idealy over 120k?) my sister keeps telling me not to buy anything over 100k miles beacuse theyll break down and its not good and not worth the money..but there hondas, shouldnt they last long? and how many miles can i accuatly put on them in 4 years...what do you guys think??
oh and my budget is around 4500. i have to worry about insurance too but i want a 2door but if i find a 4door stick that would be pretty good
