Hi people.
I have a question in my clocking in my head. We're about (me and my big brother) to buy a fabolous Nissan 200 SX S14 (early version) soon. But the car has a problem. The cams are in a "not bad at all" condition. The head was taking off for the cams "to see the sun" for a while. So, because we have to buy new cams, we're thinking on purchase some High Performance pieces, like HKS. In fact, I was thinking about HKS cams. But my question is, do we have to make any other changes beside the cams?
I hope you help.
Thanks for your help.
David.

depends on the cams. if they are relatively mild lift then you can use them without any other mods. the bigger lift needs heavier valvesprings, and once you start down that path you may as well get retainers, valves, valve job, cam gears, ect.

HKS is weaksauce. All of HKS's cams run weak lift compared to everyone elses.
get the Tomei 256s and Valve springs.
The Tomei 256s will get you power across the entire rev range and the Valvespings will prevent valve float so you wont have to use crappy Rocker Arm Stoppers.

anywho...as most companies call there products (stage 1, 2,3 ect) most stage 1's do not need mods, but some stage 2's do need some minor mods, like valvesprings ect...

Tomei is a better cam, and does not require valve springs. They are designed to be ran on stock valvetrain.

R.W.24o, hwo is the girla of your gif?
Well, so, HKS is not a good option for that? In Japan they're one of the best tuners of the country, and of the world too... Very courious.
Another question. Why the SR20DET from the S14 have 200HP, and the one from the S15 have 240 hp?
Regards

Actually the S13 has 202hp, the S14 has 220hp and the S15 has 250hp. It because of the size of the turbo, size of the injectors and variable valve timing.

Whoa man, I'm getting mad with all that. Here in Spain the Nissan 180 SX is a 1.8 T. That means it have the engine CA18DET, with an output of 169 HP. If you're telling me that there the S13 has 200 HP, that means it have the SR20 right? That was in USA and Japan only? Be side, the S14 has 200 HP, not 220 HP, and I think it don't have VVT. DAMN!!! What the hell is going on?? XD

Yes, the 200SX S14 is underpowered compared to the Silvia K's, and yes the only place to get an OEM SR in the S13 chassis was Japan. The CA's in the 200SX's are better than the Japanese models for high power production due to their 4 port head design vs. the Japanese 8 port head which is designed for more drivability, ie. midrange torque.
