auto trans leak '05 focus

I just bought an '05 focus zx4. After finding the auto transmission was about 1.5 quarts low I also noticed that it appears to have been leaking. I looked the best I could, I could see fluid from around the vent area on top. Anyone know of trans fluid leaking issues?

Ok, I just got the car back from the dealer tonight. The tech thinks the trans is overheating and purging fluid out the vent. He also ordered some final drive gears for a slight whining sound on deceleration. He wasn't sure why the trans is purging fluid, but hopes to find something more concrete while doing the final drive gears. So - I have an appointment to bring it in on the 21st for trans disassembly and repair. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a long drawn out process with multiple visits. It kind of takes the fun out of having a new car.

Same thing happened to me. '02 Focus Wagon SE w/ Zetec. Found a puddle of tranny fluid on my garage floor. Took it in and they just changed out the whole transmission. All under warranty. Mean whistle on deceleration now. Shop foreman claimed they all do it, but I dunno. Just lived with it. :disappoin

Mine doesn't have a whistle, and I doubt if it's normal, My 2001 didn't make any noise - On my 2005 I have a little gear whine while decelerating at times.
