Depends on what the screw is in. If it's just a plastic piece then by all means rip, pound or otherwise force it out and put another larger screw in. If the screw is something you really don't want to screw up like a screw going into an aluminum head then I suggest trying to file down a pair of flat sides into it and try using a wrench to pull it out. Worse case senario go down to your local autoparts store and get a cheap striped puller kit and do it properly.

its on my headlamps. there the screws holding in the metal clamp that holds the headlight.
