alright im doing a report on street racing in english and i need some info on what ppl think about it im not for it or against i just think ppl need to wake and either reduce the punishment for racing or increase the punishment on drinking and drive it kills 1000's of more ppl than street racing. i was reading some reports were smoking kills almost 500,000 ppl a year just in america and only 40,000 ppl die in auto accidents and only 5% of those are due to street racing i think we need to get are priorities straight here which one do u guys think is worse eh so yah just tell me what u guys think

the way i see it.. if you're willing to risk your life, thats fine.. but dont risk other people's lives as well.. i've street raced before, and not until a few buddies of mine smashed their cars racing did i think it was a dumb idea.. it really isnt something that should be taking place on the streets, because we all know that no matter how good of a driver you are, there's always that idiot out there.. settle it on the track.. its what they make em for..

If they wanted to really put a halt to street racing they'd have gov't initiated tracks built alot more near metropolitan areas to cut down on high-streetracing areas. And those who drink and drive, should be burned, slowly, from the toes up.

Alright, no matter how strict the punishment may be, it's still your option to street race or not. I find nothing wrong with it as long as your using your head and not racing in high traffic areas etc.... know your limits and know others limits.... People can bitch and bitch about small issues like this untill they turn red but its not going to change anything.... its classified in the same areas as Smoking, drinking, hell even driving in general.... 10mph over the speed limit when driving on the expressway can be the determining factor between life or death and you know we all go that fast.... so to sum it all up... dont be stupid... use your head....

I am all for street racing under the right conditions, this does not include street racing down a side street were kids play and often run out in the middle of the road. Thats just dangerous and stupid but I have street raced and will surely again. As long as your in a area with no inlet streets during the part your racing on then I don't see anything wrong with it although for those of us that have tracks very close that is the better/safer place to do it.

i was with my brother when he raced a 94 probe gt in his 91 240sx the weather conditions were good but the road had a 90 degree turn half way and we slowed down but the other guy wrecked pretty scary. he is doing good now

I think that street racing is fine under the right conditions as stated above... ie: empty highway late at night, blocked off 2 lane(each way) road, etc etc. I think it's mostly when idiots decide to get a big "posse" together or w/e and try to reenact fast and the furious is when stuff gets stupid. Don't race where there are other cars/people/wild turkeys. Since so many things can go wrong with the driver and/or the car, I believe that it should be known to the driver what their limits are. I think they should be allowed to street race, but if anyone dies, the drivers get jail for say 20-30yr. If the car(s) are totaled, they must pay out of pocket to fix it, lose license for X amount of time, pay for speeding/reckless driving ticket, and X amount of community service.
I think it would be cool to have at least one major road designated as a "No speed limit" zone where this can take place. Maybe like one or two of these roads in each city. It could even boost the economy: paramedics will get money from the idiots who shouldn't be racing, insurance company will be able to raise rates of people once they are out of jail/get license back, more gas will be burnt(though the oil companies dont need any more lol), tow truck companies, and I'm willing to bet some cops wouldn't even mind overseeing this so they can be of assistance when needed(call ambulance, etc). It would probably be best to have a road built off of an existing road so that regular thru-traffic wouldn't be endangered. Could this work? Yes. Would it be plausible? No... the Communistwealth of VA sucks :disappoin

yeah the common wealth does suc, va and pa, and that would be a sweet ass idea if that were to take place...the punishment for it is a bit much, and from time to time i still race on the street, what can i say, its not every day or every week fot that. i saw last night that in denver weed is now leagl as long as its not more than a ounce, so maybe street racing will end up ok under certain conditions...who knows

Well I think its alright under certain circomstances, as long as you arent being too dumb. Street racing is inherently stupid, no way around it but people do it anyways. I raced one guy once and he was weaving in and out of the median and shoulder at night to get around other cars.... so what did I do? I let him go, fuck that shit, im not killing anyone and im not losing my car. if you are talking about an empty highway then hell yeah.
On a interesting note I saw this poster at the washington DOL and it had a picture of a state patrol officer with a bright orange riced out nissan 350Z. the caption read "You never know what we will be driving next... street race and lose your car".
and not to mention your license either.
Drinking and driving does kill a lot of people, way more than street racing but 5% to me is still pretty shocking. I think keeping the punishment for street racing and upgrading the punishment for drinking and driving is what should happen

Well the way I see it, there is NO excuse for drinking and driving. You should have someone ahead of time to call and be the designated driver. There are bars to get drunk in.
I have to drive about an hour or more just to get to the closest drag strip. There is nowhere else to legally do it. Every city should have a program to meet the needs of gearheads like us.
Much like how in (I believe) Denver, it is legal to smoke weed, just not in excess of 1oz. Something like that would be good for street racers. Maybe allow racing to take place on whatever road as long as you are 18+, haven't had any wrecks that you were at fault of, say from 11pm - 2am on say Wednesday nights.
Why is streetracing becoming such a bigger problem? The damn government is CLOSING DOWN drag strips. I think I read there used to be about 60 strips in Cali way back in the hot rod era, now there are about 20. Or something along the lines of that.

I'm all for streeting racing just like many others have said...under the right conditions. I'd prefer not to die or to loose my legs in a car accident, but when I race(d) I've always thought about where I was, what time it was, and checked the rest of my surroundings to make sure that it was safe, and that I wouldn't get caught.

It is not legal.
It is legal per city law.
It is NOT legal per county, state, or federal law.
You have any on you....you can still be arrested for it. The ballot was just to shut up some groups wanting the legalization of doobies.
Street racing.....
Why do tracks have safety requirements? What happens at a track if someone has a problem keeping it straight and hits a wall?? Safety crews are out there in no time.
What happens on the street if something happens?? Most guys street racing will just take off leaving you to fend for yourself. Just to save their own asses from the ticket.
That said....I am 50/50 on street racing. As long as it doesn't endanger anyone but the two racing....go for it.
And I can't say I have never had a couple blasts from a stoplight.

Street racing as been going on for a long time, since the 50's at least. But it still breaks the law, especially the speed limit. I do agree however that the consequences are way too severe. A drunk driver can be back on the road legally, but a street racer can't? That's a bunch of crap. I'm not for street racing, I'm not against it either. I've done it and gotten away with it, I've also done it and got caught. That's why I won't do it again.

The law needs to distinguish between people drag racing down my residential street, and two mature adults going at it at 2 am on an empty freeway. It'll never happen.
And it makes no sense to me that the penalty for street racing is worse than the penalty for a DUI. A drunk driver is at least 5 times as likely to crash and kill innocent people than a street racer (and I'm being INCREDIBLY conservative with those numbers.)

lots of cops don't understand the great lengths that real street racers go through so that they don't hurt anybody... they think we are reckless, mindless people with fast cars. when we actually do take alot of care in making sure there is no one around to get hurt...
the danger street racers pose is far less than that of drunk drivers
what i would like to see, but prolly would never happen. is cops coordinating different areas set aside for street racers, then they can watch it and they'll be there just in case something bad does happen. that could eliminate the reason for their fears of us becoming unruly, even though we are much more controlled than they want to believe.
that should be done for those of us that live far from a track

I'm not against street racing but think about it guys. You say thay should make... one road... where it's safe and legal to race... there are emergency crews on standby... and it's all good.
Speculate the tax increases to fund this, and hey what they hell get some equipment so that you can see how fast you were actually going...
OH WAIT you're talking about building a drag strip!
