Starting problem with an added twist

Well, my situation is a lot like the last guy. I have a 1999 Intrepid with a starting problem. The car decides when it wants to start and also when it doesn't want to start. But, unlike most people that have posted this same problem I have an added twist to the situation. I just got a new remote start/security system put into my car about a month ago. I had never had this problem previous to the installation. So anyway, two weeks ago I was driving on the interstate, going about 70 at night, when I turned on my bright lights and the whole car stalled and restarted itslef. All lights shut off and it seemed as though the whole electrical system had shut down. I had no clue as to what was wrong. When I went to start it two days later before work there was nothing. No lights, just blank. I called a tow truck and as soon as they put it up, interior lights came on and she started right up for me (of course after the tow truck). I had it taken to the dealer, but they couldn't reproduce the problem that I was having, but they did find a loose connection to my battery, on the negative post. Sent me away with over a $100 bill and said "We think your remote start/security system is causing the problems, have it checked out." So I did, took it to that place, they looked it over and said all connections were good and it was fine. Well, now a week and a half later, the car dies again when I am at school and I call the dealership and they say "Tow it over." And I explained what had happened the last time, but they don't care. So I call the place that put in the remote start, and they say they will come look at it later tonight. Well as I was trying to start my car I noticed that I could hear a relay clicking sound under my steering column (where the brain of the remote start is located) and that my door ajar light was blinking with every click of the relay. So it seemed as though my car was completely dead, since no lights except a dim oil light and a flashing door ajar light came on. Now both places are pointing the finger at one another. The dealership blames the remote start, the installers at the remote start place blames the dealer and I am stuck with a money pit that I just keep throwing money into.

So, If ANYONE has any insight into this problem, PLEASE let me know. Thank you ahead of time....I hope to hear back soon.

I'm willing to bet that the remote start system is interfering with the networking system of your car. Your car has between 3 to 6 computer modules on the car that all "talk" to each other. The remote start system could be hindering those modules from communicating thus giving you the issues you are having now. The no start would appear to be a loose connection, probably from the remote start module, or they powered up the module on direct 12V w/o any type of real circuit protection, other than a circuit breaker, which would explain the clicking sound you heard under the steering column. Try disconnecting that remote start module and seeing what goes from there. I'm wiling to bet that they either incorrectly hooked it up but just aren't willing to admit it. Do this as well, if you have a friend who is a mechanic, have him look at it and make sure nothing is screwed up. Two heads are better than one.

FYI:
Well the remote start/security system was pulled out of my car that night and the car still wouldn't start. So, we tryed jumping it just for thrills, and it started. Unfortunately, it didn't stay started for too long. So we started it again and prayed it would make it to a mechanic. The car got to the mechanic, he looked at it yesterday. Apparently, my charging system was working just fine, but it wasn't actually making it into my battery. Even though the dealership looked at it a week prior and thought nothing of the corrosion on my battery terminals, the new mechanic followed the charge to the terminals and found that the corrosion wasn't allowing the battery to charge. He cleaned them up, recharged my battery and sent me on my way for another $120. So, hopefully that is the end of this horror story. Thanks again.
