Trans.light blink fix

I have had the same problem with trans light blinking and trans slipping while light on, and switching ignition off to reset. 91 trooper I have. Removed select switch on left side of trans, and found that oil had got inside the switch, and some build up of some type. Cleaned copper contacts and put fresh lithium grease inside switch and put switch back together. There is also a vacumn hose on the switch you will need to make sure it doesn't get unplugged. Need to read manual, if not mechanically inclined, may need to find a mechanic. Not a easy part to get to. After re-installing, my light did not come on anymore. I was having problems with the light coming on if it was put into low also. I can now put it in low and the light does not come on. I feel that faulty information was being sent to the TCM causing the light to come on due to voltage spikes or volt lose inside switch. Hope this will help someone out with Trooper trans nightmare.

Armyman: I am having the same problem with transmission on my 91 Trooper II. You hinted that others have had the same problem. Can't find their post(s). Was their fix different from yours? What do I have to remove to get to the select switch? Is it very noticeable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been searching for a fix on this problem for over a year now... what I've noticed is there is a large amount of trooper owners that have this exact same problem. it has been dubbed "Limp Mode".

I will be sure to let everyone I know with this problem know.... and as soon as I can get my engine cooled down, I'll clean mine too :iceslolan
